Millbrae is a small town in San Mateo County, California. The population was 5,711 as of the 2010 census. Millbrae was founded in 1887 by David and Anna Ladd. The name comes from two millstreams that flowed through the community - Mill Creek and Braeburn Creek. The first post office at Millbrae was established on December 12, 1887. David Ladd served as the first USPS mail carrier. By 1896, there were six businesses in Millbrae - three general stores, one bakery and one hardware store. In 1899, two families moved to Millbrae from near Brisbane, Oregon and started a poultry farm called Brownsville Farm which continues to operate today. The new residents brought with them their own water supply and built a water tower to provide it to the community. In 1902, Ahab Hutton opened his seafood restaurant on Second Street in Millbrae which became known throughout the Bay Area for its fresh seafood dishes including tilapia carpaccio, scallops à la mode (a dish made with lobster),aham chowder and clam chowder. In 1906, Mr & Mrs John Sibley erected a frame house on what is now First Street in Millbrae for their daughter Edith Sibley Day who later married Dr George Geiger of Menlo Park (the first doctor to serve Menlo Park). The economy of Millbrae changed dramatically when World War I began with America's entry into the war on April 6th 1914 Starfleet Supply Depot No 1 opening at 2129 Elm Street providing food-based fuel for ships sailor's rations supplementing what could be gleaned from coastal fishing stocks outside of San Francisco Bay Area waters sources during this time periodmill braes post office operated until Oct 1941 On Sept 30th 1912 Mrs Clara Evelyn Elliott died suddenly after giving birth to her second child only 8 months prior also leaving behind 3 children ages 4 thru 10 years old all living at home while she worked part time at her mothers place selling eggs till they could go out onto their own . After much effort by relatives many friends over several days coroner arrived here Wed Oct 7th 1912 . Then Mrs Evelyn Elliott hired an attorney named J B Yeoman who did everything possible for her 3 kids including getting Social Security number for each so they would not become orphans

In 1865, the mill closed after a fire destroyed most of its equipment. The mill reopened in 1870, but by 1899 it had been closed again for good. It reopened in 1922 as a storage facility for agricultural products. The mill was purchased by Pacific Land & Investment Corporation in 1970 and it ceased operations that year. It was sold to Southern California Edison Company in 1975 and it stopped operating that year too.
