After World War II, Winchester Arms Corp.,Browning-Winchester Firearms Corporation (BWS) and Remington-Rand Corp.(RMR) combined to form American International Incorporated (AI). AI continued production until it was acquired by Sturm Ruger AG in 1998.

Merced, California is a city in central California and the seat of Merced County. The population was 30,912 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Merced River and is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The City of Merced was founded on January 1, 1853 by John C. Fremont in what is now downtown Merced. Downtown was later renamed "Merced" aftermerching gold in 1849. The discovery of gold in California led to an exodus of people from east to west during the mid-19th century. In 1852, Stephen Humboldt became governor of California and ordered all nonnativesettlers out of California except for those who could prove they were descended from Native Californians. In response, many immigrants moved their families northward into what is now Nevada and Oregon because they were unable to find land or approval from Humboldt's government to remain in California. Many mergers took place between these various groups as individuals discovered new deposits of gold on their properties: Sutter's Mill (1853), Donner Pass (1854), Kernville (1855), Happy fireballs (1856). A small community called Truckee developed near Yosemite National Park due to its location close to available water resources and easy access to goods coming down the Sierra Nevada mountains
In 1849, Merced County was created from parts of Fresno and Tulare Counties. The county seat was located in what is now Fresno. In 1856, the legislature renamed the county after George Merced, a general in the Mexican-American War and founder of the California Gold Rush.
