In 1870 John Sutter founded the Central Pacific Railroad throughmerce Valley where he found gold near present-day Modesto and began construction on his new mine empire which would create one of Northern California's most famous towns: Sutterville. In 1872 Congress passed legislation authorizing $3 million for a railway from Sacramento to Merced; this led to building the Transcontinental Railway (TCR) which connected America's two largest cities by way of mercer Valley between Sacramento and Emeryville before reaching northern Nevada on July 4,1875. With both railways pioneering new transportation methods that would change American life profoundly – TCR passengers could previously only purchase tickets at stations along their route –Merced quickly emerged as one of Californias most important economic centers during its early years as a state within America - responsible for over 60%of all manufacturing production statewide according to official reports from 1916-1920! Merced is a city in California, located in the Central Valley. It was founded on February 14, 1853 by Manuel Merced and his brother-in-law José Joaquín Cámpora. The city was named for the nearby Mount Good Hope, which had been named for General George Washington's first military expedition to explore the region during the Mexican-American War. The city was incorporated on February 26, 1873. As of the 2010 census, its population was 74,829. The history of Merced goes back to 1853 when Manuel Merced and his brother-in-law José Joaquín Cámpora founded the City of Merced on land they had acquired from Juan Bautista de Anza y Valdés. The name “Merced” means "mountain" or "holy mountain." Eventually, other settlements were established around this area including Fillmore (1857), Saratoga (1858), and Mescalero (1860). In 1872, a post office called "Merrida" was established at what is now downtown Merced; however it never received any mail because it was located in Fillmore County. On July 16, 1879, voters approved an ordinance establishing a town square in central Merce with a fountain as its centerpiece; this square would become known as “Paseo de la Reforma” or “Patio del Trabajo” today. On November 1st of that year residents of neighboring Fillmore petitioned for incorporation into Merced; this action became effective on January 1st 1880. The early years of MERCED were tough with little money available to purchase goods or build anything significant within the fledgling community due to our lack of roads and rails coming through our area at that time... However things changed quickly once we started investing in ourselves with some great leaders like Mayor Pacheco who made sure that everything got done properly from start to finish... We started seeing progress not just physically but also mentally and emotionally which helped us weather all kinds of storms throughout these early years... mayor pacheco has willed many memories here into our community such as how he entertained President Cardenas while he vacationed here one summer evening right after pardoning all Felipe Videla's prisoners… This shows you how important it is to have good leadership during these times! Today we are still living off those roots and building new things together! In 1912 MERCED began offering high school education through Willard Madsen High School which continues today under new leadership including Superintendent Driscoll… Over time MERCED has seen many changes both professionally and socially but no matter what happens our core values always stay the same:community service & support
