Menifee, California is a small city in Orange County, California. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Anaheim Hills and shares borders with Huntington Beach to the north and Yorba Linda to the east. The name Menifee comes from two places: Meniegee Creek and Meniegee Hillock. The creek was named for a white woman who found water there, and the hillock was named for a man who built a cabin on it. In 1850, when men in Anaheim started traveling to Palos Verdes Peninsula looking for new land to settle, they came across this area which looked like it would be good for farming. They decided to build a settlement here and named it Meniegee after one of their discoveries. The first people who lived in Menifee were Native Americans who hunted game hereabouts until around 1810-15 when they started building teepees out of logs near where modern day Interstate 5 meets Interstate 10 (the current location). A few years later some Spanish missionaries arrived in what is now Orange County and began doing missionary work among these native people. One such missionary was Father Francisco Xavier Rodriguez y Arana who baptized many people here in 1797 or 98. This baptismal site still stands today as part of Bishop Coleman Park’s property off Center Street in Menifee just west of I-5/I-10 interchange (Exit 241B).Father Rodriguez also established an extensive system of intertribal communication here by means of runners known as “carros de ruta” or “roadrunners” because they ran between missions overland from San Juan Capistrano through Orange County back up into Los Angeles Valley before reaching central California again at Monterey Bay about halfway down their journey home each way… . After Father Rodriguez died in 1827 his successor, Fray Antonio Ramos y Costilla succeeded him but had no interest whatsoever in furthering Indian education so within two years he had withdrawn all Indian students from our community because he felt that we were not living according to God’s plan for us Christians! We did not convert then either! Instead we continued our traditional hunting & gathering lifestyle which continued until around 1840 days or so following Father Rodrigues death when most probably some other individual took over his mission field specifically within our boundaries…. Our original occupants may have been those displaced live oak trees that stand along center street today – measuring more than 40 feet tall at their widest point – believed by many to have been planted there by Our Lord himself during His visitations herein while others attribute its growth thereto due mainly to periodic lightning strikes…. At any rate over time coming waves of white settlers began moving into this area seeking land & opportunity; bringing with them various diseases including smallpox which decimated many natives thus reducing their populations even further….. By 1852 only 1/3rd remain of original Pacheco tribe remained living amongst us speaking Pomo language although most likely remnants thereof are continuing resident inside present day city limits proper….. Today only 0.1% (of total population) speak Pomona language proficiently while nearly all others proficiently understand English perfectly well! In 1854–55 Jameson Goldfarb discovered rich gold orenearby at what is now Calawanda Avenue and North Road; this led eventually to becoming one of Southern Californias leading mining communities In 1865 John Capper opened what is now Disneyland with silver mines nearby on Hyperion Springs Road Many famous actors & actresses grew up here including Walt Disney World Resort's namesake park founder Mickey Mouse Disneyland closed permanently circa 1965 due largely to diminishing silver production however parts reopened as attractions like Main Street USA Parkway continue operating successfully today income wise notwithstanding Visit website For More Details

In 1901, it was abandoned by its original inhabitants and left to be forgotten. But over time, interest in Menifee has revived and new residents have begun exploring its history anew. In 2018, local historians organized a historical walk through the town which included stops at several historic buildings dating back to 1820-22 including the Mission Schoolhouse and Church .
