In 1935-1936 local businesses pooled their resources to build the Valley Ranch Golf Course which became one of Southern California's most popular golf courses with professionals playing there frequently during summer months only a few miles away at Disneyland Park

Menifee is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno Metropolitan Statistical Area. Menifee has a rich history dating back to 1847 when it was known as "Humboldt Ranch". The town was founded on February 14, 1847 by Capt. George Prentice and Lewis & Clark Expedition member William Hiaasen as Menifee Valley after meeting on their journey from Sacramento to Mount Shasta. The name Menifee is from an Indian word meaning "place where there are grapes." In 1849, Samuel Morse arrived in Menifee and started transmitting messages over the US military's first telegraph line between San Francisco and Los Angeles. He also planted grape vines in what is now downtown Menifee to commemorate hislocation and connection with the early days of American communication across the country. The first post office was established in Menifee on March 15, 1850; it opened under the name White Sands Post Office because white sand had been used for mailing ballots during elections at that time. In 1865, San Jose became an independent city and men began packing up their belongings and moving to San Jose when they realized they would not be able to keep their jobs with the new city government. The last post office closed on December 31st of that year due to lack of customers; however, it reopened under its present name three weeks later on January 4th with only nine residents living in what is now downtown Menifee. On July 15th of 1862 Ulysses S Grant set out from Fort Tejon after leading troops against Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna in what became known as Battle of Borreguero Creek which ended with Grant's successful victory over Santa Anna's forces near modern-day Death Valley National Monument (now Mojave National Preserve). At this point Grants', future home site became available for purchase along Buena Vista Street east of present day Main Street which led to its current moniker -Grant Avenue -and today's location for businesses within walking distance of both Fttejon Army Base and USC University campus

In 1865, the name of the town was changed to Menifee Valley after a donation from Mrs. Anna Haskell. Menifee Valley is now a census-designated place (CDP) within Riverside County, California.
