Menifee, California is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Menifee is located on the eastern edge of Kern County and west of Bakersfield. It is part of the Bakersfield–Daly City–Burbank metropolitan area. The name Menifee comes from two Native American words: "meni" meaning 'beautiful place' and "fea" meaning 'settlement'. The town was founded in 1911 by J.C. Menifee and his wife Dora Kapp as a small farming community on the east side of San Joaquin Valley between Bakersfield and Visalia. By 1915, Menifee had a post office, three churches (Anglican, Methodist Episcopal, Lutheran), several businesses (seed merchants, grocers), a school (grades 1-12), and a train stop on the Pacific Railway. In 1916 when Californians voted to create Kern County, Menifee became one of its first municipalities. In 1951 local resident Redford Satterwhite donated land to form present-day Menifee along with neighboring Evergreen Village for use as an open-air shopping center which would be anchored by Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Menard's department store chain until it closed in 1978 after years of decline due to competition from larger mall developments around the area including Kmart/SuperTarget/Pizza Hut/Target etc., as well as general store closings throughout Kern County which contributed to what has been called "the menialopolis problem". Today menifeedom remains strong with numerous festivals such as Oktoberfest (largest event) held each year across both phases of town while many small businesses continue to operate despite difficult economic times; lawn care services are also popular among residents who maintain large gardens which attract tourists during fall foliage season

In 1923, they reorganized the cooperative as the Menifee Fruit Growers Association. In 1951, they merged with the Orchard Company of California to form the Orchard Co., Incorporated. The company continued to produce fruit until it filed for bankruptcy in 1984.
