In 1850, Governor David Ziegler authorized townships within Butte County to be formed into villages for easy administration by county officials and chose Mendota as one of these villages. On October 10, 1851, Mendota's first school opened with nine students enrolled grades 1-6; it was converted into a high school in 1912 after being donated by Mrs. Amelia Blythe Draper (1812-1886). In 1857 President James Buchanan appointed George Hearn as United States Collector of Customs at Mendota after his election as President on November 3rd due to lack of qualified candidates from California due to that state’s admission ban that lasted until January 6th of that year When California became an organized state on February 14th 1861 following its admission into the Union under Abraham Lincoln as its 59th state, both parts of what are now Butte and Nevada Counties were included within Alameda County because it had been part of Contra Costa Province which then included most of Northern California including downtown Oakland . Incorporated within Alameda were portions of East Bay City still served by Shoreline Boulevard although all services have since been transferred to BART . Also incorporated within Alameda were portions formerly belonging to Contra Costa Township including Hayward before becoming part of cities like Fremont In 1915 Vinton Hayes developed land east of Highway 9 between Hayward Boulevard and Menlo Park Creek known then as “Hayward Ranch” which eventually became home to Oracle Corporation Headquarters before being sold off in 1984 . After World War II many veterans returned home contributed their skills or businesses such as aircraft manufacturers Lockheed Martin or Northrop Grumman The post office closed here on December 15 1954 but reopened on May 12 1957 with new mailing facilities behind First National Bank building across Main Street from today’s courthouse square

By 1957, however, enrollment had decreased to 300 people due tolarge-scale development throughout Mendota County that replaced agriculture as its primary economic activity. In recent decades, Mendota has been resurgent as an important center for education and technology because it is home to several major research institutions including UC Berkeley School Of Engineering and Applied Sciences; UC Davis School Of Medicine; and Stanford University School Of Medicine – both located on campus at nearby Menlo Park. Additionally, many high-tech companies have their headquarters in Mendota County thanks to its ample access to energy resources and its close proximity to Silicon Valley
