Mendota is a census-designated place in Humboldt County, California, United States. The population was 2,965 at the 2010 census. Mendota is located on the eastern edge of the Humboldt National Forest. The first Europeans to visit Mendota were Manuel Nieto and Gaspar de Portolà, who camped near what is now downtown Mendota on October 14, 1769. They named it "Mendoza" after Joaquín de Mendaña y Gómez, viceroy of New Spain and captain general of Peru. A post office was established at Mendota in 1835. In 1861, the town was platted by George Winton Saunders with a population of eighty-five; he also donated land for a church and other buildings. In 1896, an accident involving two locomotives destroyed most of the town's infrastructure; as a result, Mendota began to experience rapid growth due to its proximity to logging mills and other industry. However, this prosperity did not last long; by 2000, Mendota had only 30 residents living in over 20 businesses concentrated around its central square. By 2006 there were only 8 households left in the former rural community that surrounded downtown Mendoza Park In recent years there has been much development taking place around downtown Mendoza Square which should help revitalize downtowns across America As far back as 1835 when George Winton Saunders platted what would become known as Mendoza he called it “Mendoza” after Joaquín de Mendaña y Gómez Captain General of Peru who gave him land for a church & school which was soon built

Mendota is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Mendota is named after Samuel Morse and his brother Alfred who both immigrated to the area in 1847. The first post office opened in Mendota on December 12, 1851. Mendota has a history dating back to 1847 when two brothers from Boston – Samuel Morse and Alfred – came to the area to start a new life. They were soon joined by other pioneers, including Captain John Sutter of Sacramento and his wife Mary Anna Haggerty Sutter. In 1860, the town had 10 residents; however, it grew rapidly due to its location on the Kern River and its access to irrigation water. By 1870, Mendota had 25 residents; however, it continued to grow rapidly until 1890 when it reached 100 residents. As Mendota became more populated, so also did its political structure; by 1890, it had a Board of Supervisors and an elected Mayor/Council members system. Additionally, Mendota began hosting agricultural fairs which helped promote agriculture in the area. In 1925-1926 Mendota annexed much of nearby Bakersfield into its city limits making it one of the most populous cities in Kern County at that time with over 1000000 people living within its borders! In 1937-1938 Arizona Senor Frank Church traveled through Kern County visiting various communities including Mendota where he delivered his famous “The Grapes of Wrath” speech denouncing what he saw as social injustice in America during that time period (i.e., farmers being dispossessed). This event helped spur public opinion against Agricultural Adjustment Act policies which were later repealed following World War II™ . In 1945-1946 Chargers player Stan Musial attended a football game between San Diego State University’s Aztecs and US Naval Academy’s Cadets at Valley View Stadium where he donated $10 for each hat worn by players on field! This event helped create civic unity among Californians during those tumultuous times as part of Operation CrossroadsTM . Today there are many businesses located throughout MendOTA such as San Miguel Brewing Company (founded 1915), Green Acres Nursery & Garden Center (founded 1979), Community Bank ( founded 1985), Ford USA dealership (established 1962) along with numerous restaurants such as Jamba Juice® , Chipotle Mexican Grill®, Subway® , AirBnB®, Costco ® , Taco Bell® . There are also several schools located within walking distance such as South Bay High School (), Parkview Elementary School (), Oak Hills Middle School (), Eastside Junior High School (). Finally, there is also an active recreational community located just outside of town comprising golf courses,, tennis courts,, playgrounds,, horseback Riding Stables Howell Creek Ranch & riding school
Mendota was founded by George Mendota in 1876. It is a small county located in the Central Valley of California. Mendota is known for its fertile land and agricultural production, as well as its large population of farmers and their families. The county seat is Dixon.
