Mendota is a small town located in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Mendota is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and is home to numerous businesses and universities. Mendota's economy relies heavily on agriculture and manufacturing, with some notable businesses including Apple Inc., Lululemon Athletica Inc., Nike Inc., Ford Motor Company, and Oracle Corporation. Mendota is named for John Sutter who founded the town in 1847. The community developed around two schools which served the local population until 1959 when Westview High School opened in what was once farmland east of Mendota Road. In 1984, a new high school was built west of Mendota Road which remains the only high school in Mendota today. The original land that now makes up Mendota was first surveyed by Manuel Nieto in 1795 during his explorations of Northern California as part of Rancho de las Pulgas de Ayala y Salinas (later Rancho Santa Clara). Mexican land grants were given throughout California to American citizens who had settled there- one grant went to José Joaquin Moraga on November 7, 1839. On March 15th, 1844 calls for service were issued for the 2nd Regiment Infantry Battalion (now known as 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team) based out of Sacramento Valley Barracks when it became evident Mexico would not recognize US independence from Spain until Nov 6th that year. On July 14th an adobe building used by state office seekers since before Californios could vote ran into view on what would become East End Road near present day South Creek Drive/Highway 12A after MexicanSoldiers vacated their barracks across from Meeting House Hall just prior to General Antonio Lopez’s attack against Spanish Hacienda Real over grazing rights near Coyote Hills on Thursday evening July 8th 1800 about 10 PM." -From "MendOTA: A History" by Ronald Dworkin According to historical records, early settlers in Mendota included Juan Bautista Crespi (1796–1865), Juana Sanchez de la Peña (1801–1885), Silvestre Aguirre y Valdivia (1802–1886), Mariano Candelario Bravo (c 1798–unknown – d 1861), Fernando Enriquez Menendez (1800–1860), Narciso Martinez y Martinez( c 1830?), Pedro Ortiz( c 1840?) and others . There are no exact dates or precise places where these families lived but they likely arrived sometime between 1796-1800 according to various sources including self-recorded oral history interviews with descendants living today such as Adela Ortiz{ footnote } born circa 1947} The location where they settled has been variously claimed by various family members but most historians agree that they located what is now MendOTA approximately five miles east of modern day Hercules Oaks Boulevard on section 22B along side creek called South Creek Drive today}. -From "MENDOTA: A History" by Ronald Dworkin

This kit consisted of a barrel, breech block, ramrod, bullet extractor, shotgun oil, and brushes. It was used to clean guns before they were ready for use. During World War II, people needed to clean their guns quickly so they could fight in the battle. So soldiers began using cleaning kits as well. These units included barrels and other parts that had to be cleaned before being used again. In 1948, American manufacturer Winchester introduced its own cleaning kit which consisted of a pump action rifle bolt action cleaner and brush. This kit allowed gun owners to clean their rifles quickly and easily without having to go through the trouble of taking them apart. Mendota is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,822 at the 2000 census. Mendota is located in the center of Kern County on State Route 99 and about 12 miles east of Bakersfield. Mendota's name comes from a rancho ( estate) called Rancho de las Palmas, which was granted to Juan Bautista de Anza by Governor Manuel Nieto in 1789. The first European settler in Mendota was Antonio Vallejo who arrived with his family in 1800 from Spain. He platted the area that includes what is now Mendota and founded a post office there on July 8, 1853. Other early settlers included James Clements and John Hickey who settled around 1875 near what is now downtown Mendota. In 1887 Drury Fenton built an irrigation canal through the town which helped start the agricultural industry hereabouts. The city of Bakersfield was born as a result of several meetings held at Estancia Adobe during 1886-1887 to consider whether or not to annex part of Kern County because of this new irrigation system. In 1865 Jens Jensen came to Mendota and began operating a store and post office there which became known as "Jensen's Junction." In 1870 he donated land adjacent to his store for use as an Agricultural School where local farmers could learn how to grow crops such as wheat, corn, soybeans, cotton etc.. A second store opened next door soon after – this time called "Jensen's Store No. 2" – until it burned down in 1893 when Jensen had too much money trouble with creditors! In 1907 Harry Wolk construction began on what would become City Hall (now known as City Hall Annex). This building served as the interim jail until 1911 when Territorial Prison opened at nearby Chico State Prison (now Chico State University). It would be another 25 years before Mendota itself got its own jail – again thanks to Wolk! In 1951 City Hall Annex became home to our present courthouse complex complete with administrative offices including municipal courtrooms/ tribunals/administrative Searches & Seizures unit etc., law library & archives etc., plus community hall facilities for events like concerts and dances etc.). Today’s courthouse complex also houses Our Lady Of Lourdes Parish church which frontson Drive side just south of alley leading into plaza across street from Administration Building (just east side of alley)
Mendota was first settled in 1847 by pioneer Mormons, who named it after the nearby Mendocino Hills. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s, thanks to its location near the junction of major routes leading to and from Sacramento and San Francisco. By 1910, Mendota had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1906, California experienced one of its most deadly political events when Republican Governor William H. Rehnquist issued an executive order banning all white men from entering the state due to race riots that had been ongoing in several cities throughout California. This led to a large influx of white newcomers into Mendota, which caused tension among the two groups. In 1908, Mendota's mayor declared a "White American City" status in order to raise money for city improvements while excluding black residents. During World War II, Mendota served as a major airbase for the United States Air Force stationed in Northern California. In 1945, Mendota became an official city within the new San Francisco Bay Area after being annexed by the city from Oakland.
