The community has seen many changes over the years: In 1961-1963, most of the homes were replaced by new housing developments as part of efforts to improve school facilities; later that decade saw a move away from agriculture and toward service industry jobs; and then during the 1990s came an increase in crime rates which led to a decrease in population growth throughout much of 2001-2002. However, since 2002 things have started to change again with an increase in businesses starting up within the local area as well as more people moving into Mcfarland from elsewhere within Fresno County
