In recent years, Mcfarland has experienced significant growth due to its location within easy commuting distance of major cities such as Bakersfield and Fresno. There are several businesses located within walking distance of each other including several grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores and hotels along with numerous restaurants that offer excellent food options close by such as Pongo's Diner & Lounge or Red Lobster restaurant on Main Street which have made it one of the most popular tourist destinations for visitors to Mcfarland since it opened its doors over 40 years ago

One such plant was located at San Jose Municipal Airport which employed thousands of workers during World War II. During that time, Mcfarland also became home to numerous servicemen and their families who supported military activity both locally and afar
