In 1925 Harry Elmer Barnes bought land northeast of downtown for $10 per acre from Haji Amini and began developing it into what would become known as Barnes Ranch subdivisions; these included areas such as Sunnyside Elementary School and Arlington Heights High School today's homes along routes 41/49 near Interstate 5 exit 133B (Valencia Boulevard). From 1927 until his death in 1942, Barnes was an agent for Jardine & Hastings Real Estate Company that developed much of Fresno's downtown area including portions now occupied by City Hall Park
