The first gun targets in Maywood, California were established in 1885. At that time, the area was part of Rancho San Luis Obispo. The rancho was owned by Don José Gomez and his wife María de la Luz. The Gomez's had a large gun collection and decided to establish shooting ranges on their property. They hired an outdoor instructor to teach the basics of target shooting to their guests. In 1898, a fire destroyed most of the original rancho buildings, but didn't damage any of the guns or targets. The owner of the rancho resumed ownership of it and began manufacturing firearms there. He also built a training school for students to learn how to shoot pistols and rifles. In 1902, he donated land on which Maywood High School now stands; the school is named in his honor. In 1915, two men were shot at close range with revolvers at a public gathering in nearby Galt Park; one man died from his injuries while the other was taken into custody and released without charge. This event quickly became known as "The Galt Park Massacre." It remains one of history's most notorious shootings involving handguns. In 1922, Maywood voters passed an ordinance allowing private owners of shotguns to carry them openly within city limits without being registered with police authorities. This law allowed people who felt safe carrying shotguns outside their homes for self-defense or hunting purposes without NRA approval or registration requirements

Maywood, California is located in the far northern reaches of Southern California. According to the 2000 census, its population was 3,818. It was first settled by Mormon pioneers in 1847 and became a town on November 1, 1858. The post office at Maywood was opened on November 1, 1858. The first store in town was built by John Davenport and his brother Willard Davenport. By 1860, Maywood had a school and jail. On July 6, 1861, it became the county seat of Inyo County when Garland (now Cathedral City) was moved from its original location south of Los Angeles to become its new county seat. The courthouse at Maywood served as the county seat until January 14, 1912 when Lancaster took over that role The growth of agriculture in Southern California during the 19th century led to an increase in manufacturing here as well. A number of mills were built around towns such as Maywood including Wacoal (later renamed Texaco), Pleasanton and other smaller communities along the Kern River Valley between Stockton and Bakersfield At some point after World War II there began a large-scale migration of Californians to Texas due to job opportunities in oil industry jobs after World War II ended. This migration led to increased population size and poverty within our community while also increasing crime rates which impacted both neighboring towns such as Lancaster where these people lived and those living near Interstate 5 away from major cities like Los Angeles or San Francisco In recent years there has been significant redevelopment taking place within our community with many new homes being constructed Thanks largely to efforts by Mayor David Ryu who has worked tirelessly since he came into office in 2013

In recent years, however, the city has seen significant growth due to its proximity to Los Angeles and its role as a transportation hub.
