Maywood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Chico–Redding metropolitan area. The name "Maywood" first appears on a map in 1839 as "Mackinaw", and then it was changed to its present form in 1871 when it became part of the newly formed Kern County. The CDP was established by an act of Congress on December 16, 1916 and named for Edwin M. Maynard who donated land to the government for its expansion into this area. Maywood is located in eastern Kern County at (36.987189, -107.620692). It occupies asection of what once were several small townships within Kern County: Potter Valley, Gilroy Heights/San Miguel Valley, and Trinity Valley east of Bakersfield; North Maywood west of Bakersfield; South Maywood north of Bakersfield; and West Mapperville south of Bakersfield. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all land. As of the census[10] of 2000, there were 6,898 people residing in the CDP: 3,934 households outof which 36% had children underthe age OF 15 living with them,[11] 43% were married couples living together,[12] and 32% were non-families.[13] As reported by the US government in 2010:[14] There are now more than 10K people living here just from Immigration alone!
