Maywood, California is a small city located in Kern County, California. The population was 2,847 at the 2010 census. It is known for its Ammo production and history. The first ammunition production in Maywood was started by two men named Harry and John Robertson in 1903. Ammunition products were sold under the name of “Robertson & Sons” until 1907 when it changed to “Maywood Ammunition Company”. The company produced bullets, shells, projectiles, and other munitions from 1903-1907. In 1915, Maywood Ammunition Co merged with another ammo production company named JH Moore to form the Moore-Maywood Manufacturing Company which continued manufacturing ammunition until 1951. During World War II, Maywood Ammunition Co supplied ammunition to both the United States military and the allies. In 1945, they became part of the Armoury Division of Ordnance Industries (ODI) which later became US Munitions Corporation (USMC). USMC continued producing ammunition through 1966 when it merged with United Defense Corporation to become American Munitions Incorporated (AMD). AMD produced munitions through 1987 when it merged with BAE Systems Plc to become British American EMI Limited (BAE). In 1990, AMD separated into three divisions: Defense Logistics Agency(DLA), European Arsenal(EA), and Midland Arsenal(MA). A year later in 1991 DLA was renamed as Lockheed Martin Missile Systems Division while EA became Lockheed Missiles & Space Enterprise(LME) and Midland Arsenal became General Dynamics Land Systems(GDLS)

The Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded in 1892 by John Browning and incorporated on October 15th of that year. The first product from the Winchester Repeating Arms Company was a shotgun called the Model 1895. It wasn’t until 1896 that they started making rifles and handguns as well. In 1903, John Browning passed away and his son Harry bought the company. In 1913, Harry put together a team to create what became known as the “Winchester Model 80” which was eventually given to Jerry Meachum who continued to make it into today.
Maywood is a small town in Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the east side of the San Fernando Valley and has a population of about 12,000. The name may be derived from the Mayacamas River which flows through the town. The first people to live in what is now Maywood were nomadic adobe builders who traveled along the San Fernando Valley for trade and Gathering Seasonal Resources. They built their homes near today's intersection of Pico Boulevard and Western Avenue. From here they could watch herds of grazing Cattle drives past their homes on their way to water supplies further downriver or upriver. In 1884, Maywood was incorporated as a village by voters who ratified an act of Governor James Bolsinger. The village had previously been organized as part of El Monte. In 1912 it became one of twelve municipalities that made up Hollywood; its status changed again in 1955 when it became part of the new city of Los Angeles. The first store opened in 1886, near what is now Main Street and Pico Boulevard. A post office was established in 1890, and mail continued to flow into and out of Maywood until 1907 when wire service arrived which greatly increased deliveries throughout Los Angeles County! Since then many businesses have come and gone but some memorable ones include: KFC (1974-2005), Jiffy Lube (1975-present), Golden Eagle Pharmacy (1971-2002), Sears Roebuck & Co.'s big box store at 5th & Vine (1973-2000), Wachovia Bank Branch #2 where "the red bank" nickname originated from because customers would wave at employees coming in with money orders or checks (1975-present). Do you remember when KFC first opened there? I do! I'm sure everyone remembers how amazing everything smelled back then... like frying chicken! LOL Anyway, fast forward to 2005, KFC moved out finally but they left behind quite an experience: You could still smell fried chicken all over the place just like they did back then! And FYI - no more green chilies :( So sad :(

The first Europeans to find and explore Maywood were the Spanish explorers Vicente de Ayala and Gaspar de Portolà on their journey from Mission San Gabriel to Sonoma in 1769. They named it after Maytree, an oak near Barcelona. There was no permanent settlement in what is now Maywood until 1851 when General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo established a ranch there with his family. The first store opened in 1857 and the post office was founded in 1860. In 1876, John Sutter discovered gold at Sutter's Mill in nearby Stockton and began selling goods here. By 1886, many people had moved into Maywood because of the prospecting opportunities available there. In 1907, Mayor George Haggerty built a millrace called Haggerty Run which still exists today as part of Main Street. It became a popular swimming spot for locals and tourists alike early on. The growth ofMaywood began to slow down during World War II when most of the local resources were used to support military forces stationed abroad or for war production domestically. However, growth resumed after the war when new housing developments sprang up along Main Street and elsewhere around town. Today, much of what once made up Maywood has been replaced by new homes or apartments; however businesses remain scattered throughout downtown where shoppers can find fresh produce from farmers markets or purchase items from local merchants online or over phone lines or even at physical stores such as Walmart
