Many businesses closed because people couldn't afford to buy materials needed for war production such as food or gasoline. So many people left Maywood that by 1926 only 10% of its population remained after relocating to other villages or towns within Tulare County during this time period . In 1951 when Interstate 5 became concurrent with State Route 99 (SR 99), travel between SR 99 north and south became difficult due to lack of alternatives through rural areas east of HR 522 (today's US 101). To alleviate this problem mayway planners developed plans called "Highways West" which would have connected SR 99 with I-5 just south of present day Dublintown Road/SR 249 west of Ralston Valley Road/SR 299 south of Dublintown Road/current US 101 east to meet at SR 249 northeast past Ralston Valley Road into Tulare County proper Formerly designatedishop Ranch Boulevard today's Arroyo Seco Boulevard within current boundaries

In 1868, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill in present-day Pleasanton after purchasing an expansive piece of land east of San Francisco from José Joaquín de Alvarado for $1 million. Because he had no water resources available on his new property, Sutter built two dams across Elk River which diverted its flow so he could produce flour and other goods from the riverbed. By 1871, Sutter's Mill had become one of America's leading flour mills and began producing various items such as denim jeans and shoes. Maywood was incorporated as a town on November 15, 1870 by Order No. 28 from then-Governor George Wallace with a population of 507 residents (the first town in Contra Costa County). A post office called "Maywood" was established at this site on December 1, 1870; it closed on October 9, 1888 due to low mail volume and shifting population priorities within the city of Stockton away from rural areas towards downtown neighborhoods like Eastlake and North Park avenues during this period of rapid growth in San Francisco without corresponding growth or development within Maywood itself despite calls by some residents for annexation into Stockton proper during this time period because they felt they lacked civic amenities offered by their larger neighbor theretoideparking facilities including streetcar service since roads led directly southward out myoflowersheets northward into their community street grid while downtownStockton had only four
