In 1863 an agreement was made between John Sutter's Sons lumberyard chain and Russian millionaire Ivan Turgenev to build Turgenev Grove State Park just east of town. This park includes sections of Old Marysville Road (now part of I-680), present-day College Avenue, Seventh Street (now University Boulevard), North Seventh Street (formerly Broadway), Ohlone Way (present day Highway 8) and parts of Vista Road Extension south from I-680. When new Interstate 80 was built through central Contra Costa County in 1980, much research was done on locating towns or communities adjacent to I-80 so that necessary infrastructure could be built such as expressways and exits without affecting nearby communities or villages; this included studies on sites for both Marysville proper but also including areas extending into undeveloped portions of Antioch Township including East Richmond Heights within what would become downtown Marysville; finally upon completion environmental impact reports were prepared for both locations with recommendations for mitigation measures In 1984–1985 then Mayor Don Healy convened a citizens' committee called "Task Force On Community Development" which consisted primarily residents living within three blocks surrounding downtown/the state capitol complex/the county recorder's office/the sheriff's department township boundaries wanted more protected open space around them instead development proposals being put forth increased services by fire personnel patrols more police presence there nightmarish growth around schools not enough parking available only 2 freeways access coming thru town limits & main street being renamed Commercial Drive (& 2 other streets) very few people knew about it until outgrowing their neighborhoods started happening& jobs moving away businesses closed down some homes got confiscated&community turned into slums even tho no plans had been made! public outcry led to passage by vote+of ordinance creating Open Space Preservation District & mayor appointed board responsible FOR land management

These papers continued publication until 1907 when they merged into one paper called the Santa Cruz Sentinel which lasted until 1959 when it merged with another paper to become the San Francisco Chronicle
