Gun sights have been a part of the American landscape for over 200 years. In 1851, Major John Ballinger design and patented a sight that is still in use today- the Ballinger Rifle Sight. The Ballinger Rifle Sight incorporated a circle with an intersection at its center, which allowed shooters to aim their rifles accurately by sighting in on the circle's point. In 1892, George Cayley designed and patented the first ever fixed rifle sight- the Cayley Rifle Sight. This sight incorporated two circles that were aligned to allow shooters to aim their rifles using their eye movements alone. In 1916, George Hill redesigned and patented the Hill Rifle Scope, which was used on many military weapons throughout World War I. The introduction of automated firearms in the early 20th century caused gun sights to become increasingly important. Gun sights are devices on rifles and shotguns that allow the shooter to aim the weapon more accurately. They typically consist of a lens or mirror with a reticle that Aimers must line up in order to hit their target. There are three primary types of gun sights: dovetail, Weaver, and iron sight systems. Dovetail is the most common type and it consists of two parts: a base and an insert which has been machined to fit into the barrel. The insert can be either threaded or non-threaded. Weaver system is similar but instead of two parts there are four pieces that join together at one point making it more difficult for anyone other than an experienced marksman to use. Iron sight systems involve placing a dot on the front end of a telescope-like objective and attaching it to some kind of mount which then holds the rifle or shotgun in focus.
One of the earliest gun sights in Marysville was a government issue POSTAL RIFLE, which was located at the corner of First and Main Streets. This rifle featured a red crosshair on an off-white background. The sight was designed to help officers target their rifles during rifle range practice. In 1876, a company by the name of Wesson Manufacturing Company organized and began production of shotguns in Marysville. A local resident, John Wesson, donated land for the factory and provided labor force as well as raw materials. In 1879, Wesson Manufacturing Company merged with Frenchy & Madden Firearms Company and became known as Frenchy & Madden Firearms Corporation. Beginning in 1882, Henry Repeating Arms Company began manufacturing pistols in Marysville. This firearms manufacturer specialized in revolvers and semiautomatic pistols. In 1889, Henry Repeating Arms Corporation merged with American Arms Company to become American Arms Corporation (AAC). AAC produced handguns until 1911 when it merged with Colt Industries to become Colt Firearms Incorporated (CFI). CFI continued producing handguns until 1923 when it merged with George Mason Arsenal Incorporated (GMA) to form George Mason Armory Corp., also known as GMA Guns Incorporated from 1923 until its sale to Brownells Rifle & Pistol Sales Co., L.P., dated November 9, 1926; this date is generally marked as the end of CFI's involvement in handgun production.Brownells Rifle & Pistol Sales Co., LP.—Marysville Gun History Museum website
Marysville is a small town in Kern County, California, located on the San Joaquin River. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Stockton–Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley region. The town was founded by George Hearn in 1876 as a station on the Central Pacific Railroad. A post office called Marysville was established in 1881, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1916. A shopping center opened along Main Street in 1984 and has since been known as "The Mall". In 2007, an amusement park called Cedar Fair announced that it would close its doors after 25 years of business. The company cited declining attendance and competition from other amusement parks across California as the reasons for closure. In November 2009, Marysville voters passed a measure to allow open air smoking within 1/2 mile (800 m) of all public buildings including schools while also allowing smoking within 10 feet (3 m) of any vehicle registered with local authorities or used for official business purposes such as law enforcement or fire fighting. This policy change came as a result of complaints from residents who felt their communities were being targeted by cigarettes smugglers because they are near government buildings

In 1753, Nicholas-Jacques Conte designed and built the first successful iron sight for a rifle. This design utilized two iron rails that were rotatably connected to each other by an adjustable screw. Aperture Chambers were also introduced in this time, allowing shooters to adjust the angle of view while aiming at distant objects. The development of telescopic sights began during World War I, when Claude Monet created his famous “Gunsmith” series of paintings featuring soldiers using telescopes to aim their rifles at targets in distance. Telescopic sights soon became common aboard ships and submarines, as they allowed sailors to more accurately navigate their vessels at sea. By 1939, all armies had adopted telescopic sights for various firearms purposes; however, widespread use of telescopic sights until today is largely due to advances in computer vision technology and digital photography which allow us to take beautiful photos from far away without having to ever touch a camera!

One such innovation was the development of what is now known as a red dot sight, which allows users to see their target clearly while keeping their eyes open. In 1853, Marysville was founded by Captain George Stephenson as the town of Yerba Buena. The town prospered and grew until it had a population of 3,000 in 1872 when it became the city of Marysville. In 1906, the city was renamed to honor US President Theodore Roosevelt. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II with an increase in employment and population from 25,000 to over 100,000 people. The postwar years were difficult for the city as its economy was based on agriculture but it recovered starting in the late 1960s. Today, Marysville is a thriving community with a strong downtown core and diverse businesses and residents.

The town became an important stop on wagon trains that crossed the deserts of southern California during the 1850s. In 1868, Marysville was incorporated as a city and soon developed into one of Southern California's most prosperous communities. The city thrived due to its location between two major railroad lines and its ability to provide goods and services to local residents. Thanks in part to its growing economy, Marysville also became known for its wide variety of cultural attractions, including art galleries, museums, theaters, and libraries.
