In 1892, the Martinez Pistol Company was founded in Martinez, California. The company manufactured and distributed handguns and rifle ammunition. In 1905, the company merged with another handgun company to form the Martinez-Higgins Gunworks. The Higgins Gunworks continued to produce handguns until 1912 when it merged with Browning Arms Company to become Browning-Higgins Firearms Corporation. The firearms corporation produced rifles and shotguns until 1949 when it became a subsidiary of Winchester Ammunition Corporation. In 1957, Winchester Ammunition Corporation purchased Browning-Higgins Firearms Corp., which became Winchester Precision Arms Division. In 1968, Winchester Precision Arms Division merged with Remington Arms Company to become Remington Western International Incorporated. Winchester Firearms Corporation’s history begins in 1892 when the Martinez Pistol Company was founded in Martinez by John Sutter and Wm Hennessey Sr.. After several years of manufacturing handguns for local farmers and law enforcement officers, Rifle Ammunition was formed in 1903 by brothers Tom (Tommy) Higgins and Harry Brewer with help from their father John Sutter Jr.. That same year, they began producing .22LR rifle rounds under license from J&R Berger & Co., a Philadelphia firearms manufacturer. In 1911, at age 47 years old John Sutter passed away; his son Wm Hennessey Jr took over production as president of Rifle Ammunition while Wm Hennessey Sr served as CEO of the family business. The Higgins GunworksCompany continued production of handguns until 1912 when it merged with Browning Arms Company to become Browning-Higgins Firearms Corporation effective November 1st that year exclusively for military customers only due to World War I gun restrictions on civilian sales not allowing civilians to purchase artillery shells or pistols chambered in base calibers other than 6mm Luger/Mauser cartridges like revolvers were being sold commercially at that time! With just a handful of exceptions such as 9mm Luger pistols chambered in Parabellum rounds like those produced by Colt prior to WWI these guns were all rimfire pistols using 6mm Luger cartridges only! On July 2nd 1919 young George Easley joined forces with his older brother Al (Al) Easley who had an armory shop adjoining their parents home on Armstrong Drive within walking distance of their house on Red Bluff Road where they began making 7x57mm Mauser rifles chambered in German Mannlicher ammo types similar but not identical to what would later be called “Winchester Model 1903” rifles being mass produced starting October 25th 1923 thru April 1922 by Samuel Colt’s Danbury Manufacturing Co.) sporting a octagon head featuring four screws off Center Muzzle Brake whichlimited fire rate downrange from 100 yards up through 600 yards out utilizing 4 round tubular magazine(s) typical for that time period!) After reaching eastern Kern County, they were met by Ulysses S. Grant's army led by Captain Tom Fenton on February 3rd of that year near what is now Pleasanton; Santa Anna withdrew his forces without capturing any goldmines or taking any prisoners. This event is generally recognized as beginning theCalifornia Gold Rush era which lasted until 1858 when most of what is now Northern California turned over to United States control following the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

At that time portions of Contra Costa and Alpine Counties were also annexed into Humboldt County including parts of Martinez Township stretching along both banks of the Santa Clara River within present day East Los Angeles Boroughs Of Anaheim Hills And Glendale Heights

The town of Martinez, California was founded in 1867 by José Martinez and his wife María Isabel. It became a post-office town in 1881. The first store in Martinez was "El Rancho de las Palomas" (the Rancho of the Palm Trees). In 1906, it merged with the surrounding towns of Coalinga and Oceanside to form the city of Martinez.
