The harbor at Martinez can accommodate up to 25 vessels at any time while also serving as a commercial center for exporting agricultural produce such as tomatoes and maize to different parts of Mexico City. There are several universities located in or around Martinez including Universidad de la Sierra Madre (UCSM), Universidad del Valle (UV) and San José de Eloy University (SJE). Additionally there are several golf courses situated within easy reach of the city proper such as La Quinta Golf Course just north of town on Urdaneta Road or La Mesa Country Club east of town on Rincon Boulevard

Martinez, California is a small town in the Kern County of southern California. The population was 4,569 at the 2000 census. It is located on the east side of Kern River and south of Bakersfield. Martinez has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 20,000 years. The first European to visit Martinez was José Antonio de Betancourt y Ortega in 1799. In 1847, Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded here and soon became a center for Mexican settlement in southern California. By 1850, there were 1,500 people living in Martinez according to the U.S. Census Bureau report from that year. In 1853, Governor Goodwin Knight issued an proclamation creating what would become Kern County and naming it after General Vallejo, who had led military campaigns against Churruca Indians near Bakersfield two years earlier: "Valley of the Angels". In 1863, part of Chavez Ravine wassurrendered by Mexico to United States pursuant to Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and named El Rancho del Norte after President Lincoln’s brother-in-law John Cushing (1812–65). The land now includes much of eastern Kern County as well as portions of Fresno and Lodi counties within California’s Central Valley; most recently it included all or parts of Freehold Township in Monterrey County within Nuevo Trabajo Municipality – one day’s ride from downtown Mexicali on I-805E/State Route 52 northbound between US 101W (Papaya Rd.) exit 9A and I-15W (SR 522) exit 10B/Exit 372 southbound), making Martinez one of only two communities statewide with ZIP code 71455 where both halves have their own municipal governments - once even having its own sheriff! In 1951 the City Council decided that bilingual education would be offered through local high schools instead of sending students to school in neighboring Bakersfield so that more locals could get involved with their community's affairs; this decision helped make Martinez one of Southern California's most ethnically diverse cities overnight when enrollments began rising at nearby Pomona High School during those early days post-war America... On July 15th 1959 James Earl Jones made his debut as Sheriff Jim McDonnell on TV's "Theesy" playing Jigger McGee... On October 5th 1965 another landmark event happened when Gov Jerry Brown signed into law House Bill No 22 which created Riverside County thereby annexing much larger sections than just what currently lies within Kern & Mono Counties boundaries including present day East Palmdale & Norwalk.. Martinez experienced significant growth following becoming part of Riverside County due largely to its location adjacent Interstate 805 outside city limits but also because agricultural production increased significantly due various measures such as diversification away from rice farming towards other crops like citrus fruits & vegetables which continues today despite efforts by some developers to convert many residential buildings into businesses etc... After 30 years without interruption (save for annexation) increasing Hispanic populations are evident throughout almost all aspects OF THE CITY WITH A MINORITY GOVERNMENT IN CONTROL OF PUBLIC SAFETY ESPECIALLY THROUGH ITS POLICE SERVICES WHICH HAVE CONTINUED TO GROW AS MORE AND MORE MEXICAN RESIDENTS VISIT THE CITY FOR WORK OR LIVE OUT THEIR DAYS WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED IN CRIME
