Since 1975, Marina has been home to two branches of United States Customs Service - Enlisted Agents Branch #1 at Pier 21 (headed by Captain Mark Everson) and Officers Branch#2 at Pier 47 where Captain Geoff Higdon presides over both branches daily. The first Marine Barracks were built on this site in 1922-23 following completion of Camp Carleton which had been established earlier that year adjacent to Fort Point on Point Reyes Peninsula
