Marina, California is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 24,813 at the 2010 census. In 1912, construction began on one of America's largest inland waterways—the Panama Canal—and Marina became home to both terminals for the canal boats that crossed it and for businesses ashore along its route. With World War II looming large over Southern California, Headquarters Naval Air Station Miramar (NAS Miramar), which would be used for training pilots leading combat air patrols over Japan during World War II, became an important factor in Marineland’s growth during those years as well as into the 21st century. NAS Miramar closed its doors in 1946 but role in naval aviation has not stopped there; since then many types of maritime vessels have been moved into Marinas berthage including offshore patrol vessels (OVPs), amphibious Ships such as Littoral Combat Ship USSOCOM(LHD) or HMCS Regina (HMS Polar Star) among others..
