Manteca, California is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of Fresno County. Manteca is Located on State Route 168 and has a post office with ZIP code 97603. The history of Manteca goes back to 1853 when three men named Burnett, Stephenson, and Cheever discovered gold around what is now Manteca. They named their new settlement after the Mexicanaja village of Mancos (later Rancho del Sacramento) about 15 miles away. The men built a sawmill and grist mill there, but it quickly becamearna ry for timber operators from nearby towns such as Madera and Inyo County because they could get better prices for their logs by shipping them through Manteca rather than going to Madera or Inyo County to be chopped into large blocks and sold to farmers. In 1875, Jens Jensen started a grocery store in town which soon became one of the most important stores in the area due to its wide variety of groceries including breads, cereals, butter, eggs, bacon, lard etc.. It continued being run by Jensen until his death in 1954. A later owner added refrigeration and other items before selling it in 1978 to Harry Wolk who operated it until 1984 when he leased it back to Jensen's widow who continued running it until 2002 when she sold it again to Tom Burchfield who operates it today. During its time as an independent business both Harry Wolk and Tom Burchfield were some of the biggest donors support for local school districts like CIFO-Fresno High School which opened its doors in 1977 thanks largely to donations from these two gentlemen

Manteca, California is a city in San Joaquin County, California and the seat of Manteca Valley. The population was 30,921 at the 2010 census and it is located in the Central Valley of California. Manteca was founded on October 15, 1853 by Brigham Young and his followers as a Mormon outpost. The town was named for General James K. Polk who fought in the Mexican–American War as part of General Antonio López de Santa Anna's army. The first post office in Manteca opened on November 5, 1853. It served an area that included present-day Manteca, but also parts of Stockton and Turlock. In 1870, Manteca became part of what were then called the East Bay counties of San Francisco Bay Area; it remained part of that region until 1963 when it became a separate city under state law. Under Mayor George Wuerth (1922-27), Manteca put its stamp on downtown with new architecture including a civic center (the now-demolished War Memorial Building), public works buildings such as the Water Wheel Pump Station and First Baptist Church (now known as Holy Name Cathedral) and dozens of small businesses clustered around its Main Street square. Civic organizations include the Chamber of Commerce and Business Development Council; there are also numerous parks dotting central Manteca streets - Downtown Park sports fields flank busy First Avenue while Plaza de la Constitución features an outdoor amphitheater—still used for concerts during summertime—and several restaurants/bars along Second Avenue near Interstate 580 outside city limits
