The City of Manteca has been home to numerous businesses that have helped contribute to its economy over the years including Lockheed Martin Missile Defense Systems Division; Bank of America; Wells Fargo & Company; Southern Pacific Railroad; United States Steel Corporation; Kern Consolidated Mines and Manufacturing Company; Kaiser Aluminum Industries Co.; McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co.; Gillette Machinery Company; Brown & Williamson Tobacco Products Incorporated (later Philip Morris Companies Inc.) When President Clinton visited Stanislaus County in October 1993 he delivered his keynote address at an event sponsored by Brown & Williamson Tobacco Products which took place at Kern Consolidated Mines and Manufacturing Company on November 5th. That same year Valley National Bank moved from their original location two blocks north of Ventura Boulevard into what later became known as downtown Manteca under a new name “Valley National Financial Plaza” which still stands today within walking distance from both City Hall and several restaurants/bars/stores including Macy’s Department Store, JCPenney while Valley National Bank continued to offer services such as Checking Account Services through their branch office located adjacent to First American Bancorp - now HSBC bank - across Ventura Boulevard from Vallejo High School with access off I-5 just east of Coyote Hills Road giving people easy access Interstate Highway robbery rates have decreased significantly throughout much of Northern California since then making this one if not THE safestcity for pedestrians in all 50 states

Manteca, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,754 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the San Joaquin River and is part of the Stockton–Manteca Metropolitan Statistical Area. Manteca was founded in 1884 by John Sutter and his brother-in-law, George Coe. The name means "place where good fruit trees grow." The first post office was established in Manteca on July 7, 1885 by Wm. Hickey. The town grew rapidly with the discovery of gold in1893 and soon became a boomtown with businesses such as grocery stores, meat markets and a bank. In 1907, Manteca incorporated as a city under an act of the state legislature. During World War II, Manteca served as an airfield for bomber planes flying over Northern California and Nevada during Operation Monterey Bay. Today, it remains one of the few places in western Kern County that still has active military operations taking place on its surface parking lot! Today's economy focuses mainly on agriculture with many farms still operating; however, there are also several large retailers and restaurants located within walking distance of downtown Manteca.
Manteca, California was settled in 1851 by two brothers, George and Jesse Manteca. The Manteca post office was established in 1852 and named for them. In 1865, the town of Manteca became a county seat when it was formed from parts of San Joaquin County. On April 14, 1866, the name of the county seat changed to Manteca after Supervisor John A. Sutter's suggestion. The first courthouse in Manteca was built in 1870 and burned down in 1886. The second courthouse was built on Elm Street and named for Judge Augustus H. Lowenstein who presided over the first case heard in that building on November 8, 1870. In 1915, the US Coast Guard Station (later renamed Coast Guard Cutter) "Linda" located at Manteca Harbor served as an early warning station for Japanese shipping during World War II. The population of Manteca decreased from its peak of 100 families in 1945 to just 12 families by 1970 due to waves of migration to more populous areas during that decade- many of which were conducted through Interstate 5 south of town center following World War II military service local refugees often called "the ships coming home." In 1974, a fire destroyed much of downtown including the old court house and jail; however, due to quick response actions by firefighters and volunteers all damage was quickly repaired or replaced without loss or injury with only one minor casualty reported within minutes aftermath the fire began
