In 1924, Armour & Company merged with Colt Arms Corporation to form Colt Firearms Corporation which continued to produce ammunition under its own name until 1971 when it became part of Winchester Repeating Arms Company

Manteca was founded by European Americans in 1847 as an agricultural settlement on Rancho Rinconada de Santa Barbara y la Passión (present-day Manteca). In 1854, Rancho San Lorenzo de Atascadero was acquired from Spanish Governor Manuel Micheltorena and used for cattle ranching. The first store in Manteca opened in 1865. A post office opened in 1870, and the name was changed to Manteca in 1877 after Michael J. Donahue became mayor of Bakersfield. The city grew rapidly during World War II as war production increased around the region due to munitions manufacturing at nearby sites such as Kaiser Aluminum Company and Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. After 1945, most manufacturing moved out of state or into Mexico where it continued until importation ended in 1989; however light industry has continued to grow with a new shopping mall being built since 2006 along with some larger factories that have closed or are moving out over time including Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Company which employed 2,500 workers when it closed its doors in 2014; Lonestar Steel & Wire Products which employed 1,000 workers when it shuttered its doors two years later; American Can Incorporated which employed 500 workers when it announced plans to close shop effective November 30th 2016 also known as "The Can Factory" because its products were mostly cans made from aluminum alloys - all but one product line - Mercy Market ceased operations on October 25th 2017 having been unable to find a buyer for its assets; LED Technology Solutions Center LLC which operated a heavy machinery plant until January 2020 when that facility went bankrupt after numerous legal challenges alleging environmental violations related to drilling for oil and gas leases near their property A major factor contributing to recent job losses has been the softening economy resulting from declining metal prices and increasing competition from China and other countries within NAFTA who have become increasingly able to produce cheaper goods without sacrificing quality or environment protectionism
