At this time, peninsula pier company also began providing service with its own tugboats called "Pier 14" and "Pier 16". In 1915-16, Peninsula Pier Company constructed a wharf on Long Island Sound between Manhattan Beach and Shelter Cove which allowed them to export goods from their mainland business without having to transport them across the ocean first. They also opened a store adjacent to their wharf which offered sales tax refunded customers who brought back products from inland properties such as Ventura County or Los Angeles County! In 1920-21, Peninsula Pier Company leased an area located along Harbor Street between Third Avenue and Avenue C in downtown Manhattan Beach from Jardine & Hastings Incorporated for 99 years! This lease allowed them exclusive use of all Harborside Boulevard traffic lights until 2030! In 1922-23, when mayor John Fenton authorized conversion of Jackson Square into an open space within blocks of his office buildings at Tenth Avenue and Third Street he also increased funding for Peninsula Pier Company so that they could construct new facilities including: a dock where passengers could disembark vessels; additional storage areas; a public restroom; social halls; passenger accommodation; auxiliary shops; gangways connecting different boats moored at Harbor Street docks; steps leading up inside the old wharf building (now part of our city hall); electric lighting system extending down Harbor Street between Third Avenue Plaza and First Avenues Plaza

A ferry crossing called Redondo Ferry landed here on redwood logs on December 17th 1847 by Captain Benjamin Fenton aboard USS Constitution while he made his way across North America with supplies for General Mexican War forces under President James K Polk during his final voyage before being decommissioned at ports along the West Coast of North America. A post office called "Redondo" opened in 1849 and remained open until 1963; it was then renamed "Manhattan Beach". The first store in town opened on July 1st 1850 by Wm Hurlbut from Sails Inn on Long Wharf (now Point Conception State Park). A schoolhouse also opened shortly thereafter. By 1860 there were six storesopen including four owned or leased by Joshua White & Co., merchants who had moved to town from Stockton just south of Redondo beach after their shipwreck off Point Conception (the same spot where today's state park is located). On February 15th 1861 Governor Ronald Reagan signed a bill creating Surfside Harbor Company with a charter to dredge sandbars between Redondo Creek and Hermosa Channel so that steamboats could enter harbor without fear of grounding on shoals caused by waves crashing against shoreline rocks offshore! After three years of construction work no boats ever enteredhabitat due to high costs associated with maintaining such a large dredging project plus fierce competition from other commercial interests! King George II gave approval for future development August 3rd 1865 making this one of only two occasions during his reign where legislation affecting coastal communities was passed without vetoed! The name Manhattan Beach comes from Manhattan Island in New York Harbor and may have been given to the community by Captain John Davenport during his visit in 1848. The town began as a small fishing village on the north shore of Manhattan Island and grew to encompass over 6 square miles (15 km2) on two adjacent hills between San Francisco Bay and Point Reyes National Seashore. The first post office was established at Manhattan Beach on July 1, 1857. In 1870, Spanish colonists arrived in the area and named it Rancho La Conchita after their Lady Conchita of Monterey who had married an American citizen, Manuel Nieto de la Rúa y Muñoz. By 1881, most of what is now Manhattan Beach had been developed as single-family homes for wealthy Californians who ran railroadroads through the area. One summer night in 1886 Mayor Charles Sumner addressed a crowd gathered at City Hall depicting problems with town growth: "What we want is not more people but less people." A motion was then made to name the beach after him but it failed 8-0 vote; instead another motion was made to rename it "Beachwood" which passed 9-0 with only one abstention). In 1915, attention turned to World War I when America entered into alliance with Great Britain and France; Los Angeles became part of this war effort as well as military headquarters for both countries. Withdrawing its naval forces from Europe before hostilities started gave residents breathing room for development around MacArthur Boulevard which ran along downtown’s eastern edge; new businesses quickly cropped up including bookstores (the first being The Grapes), department stores (Jiffy Lube), auto dealerships (Ford & Chrysler), movie theaters (Dodger Stadium), bars/restaurants (Candlemas Cafe) and dance halls ( palms ).

The first people to live on Manhattan Beach were the Native Americans who lived in the area for centuries. In 1868, a group of Englishmen named James Irvine and his brother John set up a dockyard on the beach and began selling products from their boat, Thetis. Eventually, other English men followed suit and started businesses ashore as well. By 1870, most of Manhattan Beach was populated by English-speaking immigrants from England and Wales. In 1916, a group of American soldiers called "The Joyce Boys" landed at Manhattan Beach after being shipwrecked off California's coast. They built a house along the shoreline and became known as the "Dignitaries of Manhattan Beach." By 1925, all but one of mainland California's municipalities had within its borders what is now Manhattan Beach. In 1933, Mayor Fiorello La Guardia created New York Harbor Authority to manage New York City's waterfront assets including land that lay south of Houston Street between Broadway and Third Avenue in Brooklyn. This area became known as Bay Ridge because much of it was owned by Hermann Strauss Sr., founder of Levi Strauss & Co., which had its headquarters in Bay Ridge. In 1935, Mayor LaGuardia transferred ownership of Bay Ridge back to Strauss Sr.'s company through an agreement with then-Brooklyn Borough President Jacob Riis. During World War II, many civilians moved into the neighborhood around Battery Park City due to its proximity to war industries such as shipbuilding and munitions production. After V-E Day (Victory in Europe), many more civilian refugees relocated into Brooklyn Heights adjacent to Staten Island during 1945-46 when Japan surrendered unconditionally following World War II. It was not until 1967 that any housing developments were developed on or near either side of Sixth Avenue which runs parallel to Battersea Boulevard extending out into East New York Bronxville
