In 1934, Mayor Harry Sather passed an ordinance banning automatic weapons altogether within city limits while also authorizing licensing for shotguns and rifles up to 100 rounds per hour long magazine capacity. By 1938, Automatic Weapons Ban Repeal Act had been passed making it illegal for any individual in Los Angeles County To possess or sell automatic firearms without prior written consent from City Attorney Harry Sather himself. After World War II ended, stricter gun control laws became necessary due to increasing violence across America. In 1948, Mayor Abe Beame repealed Amendment 2 giving citizens the right againto carry pistols without permits indoors providing they possessed appropriate licenses from county sheriffs office outside of town Limits In 1958 Town Council passed Resolution 639 seeking input on creating regulations governing handgun possession by civilians within townlimits including whether handguns should be registered with the county sheriff’s office . After much discussion among councilmembers about what type of regulations should be put into place, it was decided that registration would not be necessary as pistol ownership would become regulated through town ordinances instead In 1962 Pistol Owners Open Carry Ordinance was approved by Town Council further regulating handgun possession by civilians inside townlimits
