The revitalization program that began in the late 1990s has resulted in increased development and population growth within the boundaries of Manhattan Beach Village since then- Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced his intent to move the village into annexation by San Francisco by 2020 as part of an overall effort to make downtownSan Francisco more vibrant and pedestrian-friendly through job creation and housing developments adjacent to key retailers including Amazon, Salesforce, Googleplex and Twitter headquarters." Since 2000, there have been many large-scale changes taking place within DowntownSan Francisco due to gentrification; these include: new high-rise buildings redevelopment such as One America Plaza (formerly known as City Hall), BankUnited tower (former KFC), Chase Tower (former Sears) along with several smaller mixed use buildings such as 350 Soquel Avenue (now home to Apple Inc.), 201 Mission Street (now home to PATH train station) & 333 Fulton Street directly across from Chateau Marmont Hotel - one example where large multi-tenant projects are being developed near transit stops while also accommodating residential units above ground level for those who wish not live close enough for transportation or work opportunities but desire access thereto nonetheless . Additionally there are several low rise properties variously occupied by commercial tenants such as Target & Safeway among others that have seen significant recent gentrification activity given their proximity - some examples include: 222 Haight Street which until recently housed homeless encampments before conversion into multiple religious services spaces run by Dignity Health; 223 Geary Boulevard currently used by Costco Wholesale; 3rd Floor Associates Apartment complex on Van Ness/Stockton Streets between Bryant & Hyde Streets - this property also houses a Barnes & Noble bookstore

Manhattan Beach is a city on the Santa Monica Peninsula of Southern California. The population was 26,871 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area and its economy is based on recreation, tourism, and maritime industry. The city's name comes from Manhattan in New York City which served as its first capital in 1848. The first permanent settlers arrived in what is now Manhattan Beach about 1847-1849 when Captain James Cook sailed through the Channel to L.A. He named the spot after his new homecity, London, England. In 1850, gold was discovered at Saugus Bay and General James A. Sutter bought land around it for $1 million dollars making it one of the largest land deals ever made in California history. By 1857, over 20% of all agricultural production in Los Angeles County was located within two miles (3 km) of downtown Los Angeles proper including Manhattan Beach where fruit farming became an important industry due to natural growing conditions: long sandy beaches with good drainage that allowed for high yields and little waterlogging during wet seasons; year-round surpluses led to business growth for ships carrying goods back and forth between ports on Long Beach and Venice; dried up coastal marshes near ocean current created ideal conditions for sailing vessels docking at various points along their journey inland; commercial fishing grew rapidly during this time with early success thanks to local access to spacious anchorage areas; significant efforts were made by community leaders to develop transportation links between these port facilities and downtown LA; but because there was no railroad or road connecting them then they languished until Kingman Avenue was built in 1915 In 1907 Mayor George Wickersham designated Manhattan Beach Boulevard as a public thoroughfare running from Crenshaw Boulevard eastward parallelingLosangeles Harbor while portions of Ventura Boulevard were turned into expressways serving other municipalities such as Hawthorne Blvd., Boyle Heights, Carson City etc.. In 1916 developers Harry Chandler & Eugene Debs started developing what would become known as Hollywood Studios adjacent to Studio City north of Ventura Boulevard on what is now State Route 243 west side of Mulholland Drive south side just eastside Of La Brea Avenue
The first European to set foot on Manhattan Beach was Captain John Cook in 1776. The area now known as Manhattan Beach was part of the Mexican land grant Rancho San Luis Obispo, which was given to Juan Bautista de Anza by Spain in 1821. The first permanent settler on the beach was José Gomez in 1825. In 1887, a post office called "Manhattan Beach" opened and remained in operation until 1915. In 1898, during the Spanish-American War, American forces landed at Manhattan Beach and fought against Spanish troops. The USS Brooklyn (1899) became the first warship to dock at the beach when it arrived with supplies for American troops fighting in Cuba. In 1913, New York City annexed Manhattan Beach and several other coastal towns and villages under its jurisdiction. At that time, all of Southern California was still part of Mexico. As a result of this annexation, many local businesses closed down as American citizens took over their properties withoutzonation permits from their Mexican counterparts. A few did manage to reopen after getting new permits but most business closures remain an official record today. On July 4th 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and began World War II by launching an attack on Guam which resulted in the death of more than 200 Americans servicemen including Ulysses S. Grant who had been scheduled to lead a military parade along Honolulu's Waikiki waterfront that day
