Gun targets have been used in the Malibu area for centuries. The first target shooters in Malibu were probably Native Americans who would use trees as their targets. In 1881, Captain John Sutter established a shooting range in Malibu and began using rifles and pistols to shoot at game animals. In 1907, Captain William Hutton opened his own gun range in Malibu which became well-known throughout the area. By 1918, there were over 20 different gun ranges within the city of Los Angeles alone! During World War II, the Malibu Range was used by the United States military for training purposes. During this time, many celebrities such as Elvis Presley and Betty Grable took part in shooting sessions at the range. After World War II, gun ranges slowly stopped being established in Malibu until 1966 when Captains Donny Wahlgren and Rick Berman reopened theirMalibu Range which is still popular today! The two captains quickly became known as "TheFathers of Pistol Shooting" because they made it possible for people of all ages to participate easily and safely in pistol range activities. Today, Malibu'sgun ranges are home to many aspiring marksmen who come to experience some of California's best rifle shooting scenery.

The first white settlers arrived in 1884 and founded what would become known as Rancho Santa Monica (nowadjacent Beverly Hills). By 1888, the town's population had reached 100,000. In 1932, Hollywood producer Cecil B. DeMille purchased land north of downtown for his movie studio which would eventually become Paramount Pictures. Studio executives decided to move production from Culver City because high winds made transportation difficult to arrange for delivery of materials needed for filming on set. The original Paramount studios were built on two hills east of downtown – now called Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street – with access only through a narrow dirt track leading down from them. Paramounts influence continued until 1974 when CBS Corporation bought the Reliable Television Company which in turn sold CBS Corporation stock to Warners Bros., making Warners oneof five major shareholders in Hearst Corporation (the other four being Time Warner). Hearst then merged with Universal Pictures to form Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) in 1936 which became one of Hollywoods largest film studios at its height during World War II with productions including "Casablanca" (1942), "Hollywood Hell" (1944), "Ace Ventura!" (1973), "Ender's Game" (1985) and "The Godfather" Part II(1990). With MGM operations moved into new facilities across Los Angeles County at Fairfax Avenue and Lankershim Boulevard between 1965-1976; Malibu was left without any commercial production activity leaving it largely an agricultural community until recent times due to local support for anti-landfill policies supported by then Mayor Pete Wilson . However recently development along nearby Highway One has led to some redevelopment around the old studios as well as new businesses such as Century 21 . Today Malibu is a popular tourist spot with many restaurants and bars available within walking distance from most hotels

Today, handguns remain a popular choice for personal protection due to their ease of use and low recoil coefficient (3).
The first modern firearms were invented in the 16th century. The Portuguese engineer and gunsmith, Afonso de Albuquerque, designed a crossbow that could shoot arrows with accuracy up to 100 yards. This weapon was called the “Burgonet” and was used by Portuguese cavalry commanders to take down enemy ranks.

The Malibu Peninsula was originally inhabited by Native Americans. The first Europeans to visit the peninsula were the Spanish, who explored it in 1542. The following year, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo sailed from Mexico City on his ship Santa Catalina and landed on the Peninsula. He claimed it for Spain and named it La Baja California. In 1821, Mexico gained its independence from Spain and renamed the Peninsula La California.
