Madera's first European settlers arrived in 1848 from Yreka, California as part of an effort by United States Congress to extend slavery into Northern California following Mexican independence from Spain. A two-year survey found no suitable land for slaveholders west of Sacramento so they turned back and retraced their steps to Yreka where they sold their slaves to other American pioneers nearby. In 1851 Captain John Cranch founded what would become known as Rancho Guadalupe which became Madera after he subdivided it in 1858 with his brother James Cranch under patent number 17636; both men were natives of East Texas (now Houston). James Cranchaded off smaller parcels until he had rancho M casi due west of present day Madera where his heirs still own it today: renamed after him - "Carrillo Ranch". The railroads reached Madera during this time but nothing came soon enough because World War I destroyed all irrigation canals delivering water from south central Valley to northern towns like Redding and Stockton; Yosemite National Park was built on top of these ruined valleys making it impossible for any farmers or animals to get water anywhere near farmland outside Yosemite Valley; then again during WWII when everything went back to normal Buildup started again around here but there wasn't anything left over so now we have mudslides! later still some people moved here cause they heard good things about school Districts being formed here In 1955 when Mendocino County was created out Of portions OF San Joaquin Co., MADERA BEACH WOODS HOSPITAL opened up as one block off State Route 101 just east side State Street between First Avenue South & Second Avenue North (Staples Mall) adjacent property owned by Mrs Johnston who raised chickens on her property until 1957 when she gave this Lots away for free to build Hospitals across Southern CA causing many Businesses To relocate next door including KTVU TV station which originated from this lot years ago
