By 1970 Lynwood had shrunk again but has since regained some much-needed growth as a bedroom community for other parts of San Bernardino County including Torrance and Redlands essential for jobs south of I-10/I-215; thanks also to aggressive marketing campaigns led by then Mayor Steve Richards who pushed annexation proposals throughout Los Angeles County despite vehement opposition from many powerful civic leaders there – eventually resulting in houses becoming properties within our city limits! Lynwood is located in Stanislaus County, California. The first Europeans to visit the area were the Spanish in 1769, who named it Rancho San Miguel de la Selva. A small community was founded at what is now Lynwood by Juan Bautista Lopez in 1876. The town was established as a result of the annexation of parts of Rancho El Cucho by Lynwood from neighboring Redding in 1877. The town was incorporated on April 14, 1881. The first post office in Lynwood opened on October 5, 1886 and served residents of both towns until 1912. The first store in Lynwood was built on West First Street and operated from 1886 to 1908. In 1906, two schools were built within the town: one for boys and one for girls. One of the stores that operated in Lynwood during this time also became the first grocery store west of Sacramento when it opened on December 12th, 1906 at 813 WEST 1ST ST., serving customers until 1941 when it closed down due to lack of business. In 1916, a new water tower was built within the town limits and service began operations on November 15th; however, due to World War I bombing raids throughout Southern California no mail reachedLynwood until after Christmas 1916 which caused great damage to many businesses including the grocery store; however, thanks to donations from citizens most repairs were made and service resumed on January 6th 1917 In 1927 a movie theater called "The Paramount" opened inside a large garage adjacent to Pico Rivera High School which became known as "The Great American Theatre". This theater would be demolished around 1966 but its demolition created an opening along First Street where an apartment complex now stands housing many students from nearby Pico Rivera Elementary School; this opening is also sometimes referred to as "The Paramount Garage". In 1928 another movie theater called "The Regal" opened inside a large garage adjacent to White Sands High School which became known as "The Great American Theatre". This theater would be demolished around 1966 but its demolition created an opening along West First Street where an apartment complex now stands housing many students from nearby White Sands Elementary School; this opening is also sometimes referred to as "The Regal Garage".
