The town was founded by pioneers in 1848 and is named after Captain George Lynx who led a group of troops during the Mexican-American War. The town was also the home of J.C. The design of this holster consisted of a thin metal strap running along the outside of the firearm's buttstock, around the gun's waistband, and attaching to an internal belt loop. The Holster allowed for easy access to one's handgun while in transit by simply pulling it out from under clothing. A variation on this concept was developed by Chicago Firearms Manufacturer John Flanagan in 1932 called "Flanagan Gun Holder". This weapon holder consisted of three adjustable straps that could be tightened or loosened using a key ring style lock system. This latter design proved very useful for people who frequently travelled with their handguns as it made transportation much easier.

Lynwood's history can be traced back to 1887 when George Fenton and Hiram Warner founded the city of Lynwood on what is now Myer Boulevard (then known as State Route 66). This was during thegold Rush era when large numbers of people were coming to find gold near Monterrey and other towns in San Bernardino County. In 1951, Lynwood became one of three cities chosen to serve as annexations for Riverside County due to its population growth rate compared to other areas in San Bernardino County. Because Riverside County had no municipality laws at that time, annexation proceeded without any public hearing or vote. In 1967, however, when Riverside County disbanded into numerous new municipalities due to population growth rates across California, Lynwood remained within San Bernardino County for another sixteen years before being annexed into Jurupa Valley Township on February 1st 2000. A grocery store opened up in LynWOOD in 2006 which has been frequented by locals and visitors alike!

Lynwood was first settled in 1847 by John and Janelyn Wood. The town grew rapidly due to the influx of miners and their families during the gold rush. In 1872, Lynwood became part of Fairfield County. The county courthouse was built in 1892 and still stands today. The population increased rapidly after World War II, as new housing developments were established in the area. Lynwood was incorporated as a city on November 3, 1959.
