Lynwood, California is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 122,391 at the 2010 census. Lynwood is one of the most diverse cities in Los Angeles County and has a mix of cultures and religions. The city's nickname is "The City of Angels." Lynwood was founded on September 15, 1914 by the merger of two small towns - Lynbrook and Woodland Hills - with a population of only 10 people. In 1924, Lynwood became an incorporated town with a population of 20 people. On July 14, 1959, the city passed an act to annex unincorporated areas surrounding it to its limits making it one municipality with a total population of over 200,000 people. In January 1966, Mayor Arturo Perez announced that he would not seek re-election due to his age and fragility. On December 6th 1967 voters approved Proposition N which provided for the creation of an independent school district within the boundaries of the city limits (the first such initiative in Los Angeles County). This new school district opened its doors on February 1st 1968 and served students from Lynwood through Claremont Graduate University (later UC Irvine) until 2003 when it merged into UCLA's newly created Merced School District

Lynwood is a city located in Ventura County, California. The population was 44,438 at the 2010 census. Lynwood has been called "the most diverse city in America" and "the most racially and ethnically diverse city in the United States." Lynwood is also one of the wealthiest cities in California. The first European settlers were the prospectors John Sutter and his brother James Sutter who arrived in 1821 from Sacramento. They named their new settlement after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had just won a decisive battle against Mexican forces on July 7, 1821 near modern day Chatsworth, California. The community grew rapidly due to its location close to both San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles, as well as its cheap land and good soil for agriculture. The arrival of railroads brought new development to Lynwood in the early 20th century including an movie studio (1906), automotive plant (1910), cotton mill (1915), meatpacking plant (1920), chemical works (1925) and appliance factory (1945). Today, Lynwood continues to be a center of industry with major employers such as Lockheed Martin Corp., Microsoft Corporation, Southern California Gas Company and many others. In recent years, lynwood has seen strong growth in housing-related businesses such as homebuilders Lennar Corporation, Pacific Palisades Homes Inc., Vista Hills Communities Inc., etc.. Many large-scale events have taken place here over the years including Woodstock Festival 1969 which took place within walking distance of Lynwood Stadium; the 1984 Summer Olympics which were held nearby at Angel Stadium; Los Angeles Bowl game between UCLA Bruins football team and USC Trojans football team on December 6th 1994; LA Rams vs Oakland Raiders game on September 24th 2002 at OAK Coliseum; Wrestlemania XXVII electric super show headlined by Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Shawn Michaels on April 3rd 2003 inside Staples Center across from downtown Los Angeles Civic Auditorium
Lynwood was platted in 1887 and named for General John A. Lynwood, who fought in the Mexican-American War. The town became a cattle and migrant labor center during the early 1900s. In 1907, Lynwood incorporated as a city, and began to grow rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two major railroad lines. By 1915, the city had over 100 businesses and 1,000 residents. In 1916, Lynwood built its first police station and fire department; these were followed by a library in 1924 and an hospital in 1930. During World War II, Lynwood played an important role in providing munitions for the war effort; it also served as headquarters for the Southern Pacific Railroad's Western Area Command. After the war ended,Lynwood experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community until it peaked in the 1960s when suburban development began to take hold. Today, Lynwoods economy is based largely on services such as education and government workforces
