Los Gatos, California is a small town located in Santa Clara County, California. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. The name of the town derives from Spanish militiamen who were stationed there during the Mexican-American War. The first inhabitants of Los Gatos were Ohlone Indians who fished and hunted in the area for food and medicine. In 1847, Captain George Wright discovered gold on the east side of San Joaquin River, which led to immense rushes of people to find it. A group of Mormon settlers named Woodruff moved into what is now Los Gatos in 1853. They founded a flour mill and built a house on Second Street. This period of growth was short-lived because they lost most of their land to foreclosure and acquisition by other families. In 1871, James Irvine started an unsuccessful wheat elevator business in downtown Los Gatos. He soon realized that he had found something special when he started seeing shipments coming into town from outlying areas such as Sutter Valley, Butte Creek Valley, and Eureka County that were much lower quality than those being sent into San Francisco Bay Area. Irvine decided to start his own elevator company and became one of the key players in the local Grain Exchange Businessman’s Association (GBA). His company prospered until 1893 when it went bankrupt due to overproduction caused by changes in prices caused by World War I Adjusted Prices Act (1916). After years of struggling but with occasional successes throughout its history, American Express Company founded its first office in Los Gatos on December 12th 1904 under a new name: Northern Pacific Railroad Company Office #2-Baldwin Street/Millennium Place Branch office complex known as Beatty Building after President Theodore Roosevelt’s son Elliot Beatty who headed up their predecessor Citizens National Bank (later American Express) branch operations there from 1903 until 1916 when he retired due to ageism within NP&RR organization leadership ranks following America’s entry into World War I America's entrance into World War I created unprecedented economic opportunities for Northern Pacific Railroad Company Office #2-Baldwin Street/Millennium Place Branch office complex known as Beatty Building after President Theodore Roosevelt’s son Elliot Beatty who heads up their predecessor Citizens National Bank (later American Express) branch operations there from 1903 until 1916 when he retired due to ageism within NP&RR organization leadership ranks following America’s entry into World War I In 1918 Southern Pacific Railway Company merged with North Pacific Railway so both companies continued using Baldwin building designation despite different ownership levels; however Southern Pacific Railway Company ceased all rail passenger service at Baldwin building circa 1951 Southern Pacific Railway Co shed all its appelsations except Baldwin building circa 1951 thru 1957 latsly cashing out some debt which led t0 becoming Californian Tax free Corporation

However, concurrent urban sprawl and technological advances caused significant social and environmental deterioration within the community; by 2000, Los Gatos had lost most of its residents to other parts of California or elsewhere.
