According to KQED-TV news reports, during World War II Japanese soldiers burned down much of what is now downtown Los Gatos after invading it on July 8th 1942 while American forces were besieging Japan's main city in Tokyo (then known as Yokohama)

Los Gatos, California is a small city in Santa Clara County, California. The population was 27,714 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Silicon Valley and is the county seat for Santa Clara County. The town began as an agricultural community named Livermore in 1887 and grew around a sawmill and foundry called Livermore Mills. However, despite these setbacks, over time Los Gatos has regained some of its former glory as a center for technology industry jobs within Silicon Valley and beyond – including becoming home to Google's headquarters before they moved out campus near Mountain View in 2014; starting off Google Fiber service here back in 2015; being recipient of $1 billion from Apple Inc.'s pledged investment for research and development here since 2006; being host city for both Formula One racing events (the world's largest motorsport event) throughout 2017–present; hosting numerous international events such as the United Nations' Summit on Climate Change here every year since 2005; having been designated "world’s mostLiveable city" by Forbes Magazine multiple times over; and also dedicating itself extensively to arts & culture with several major festivals each year including Santa Clara Shakespeare Festival (one of only two Shakespeare festivals held outside London), Big Sur Open Air Art Festival (largest open air art festival ever held), Hollywood Bowl Festivals (Hollywood Bowl is one stop on Hollywood Bowl Tour), Lane 1 Arts District late night music series happening all summer long etc.; making it one of North America’s most successful LGBTI+ cities overall!
