The community then grew rapidly due to the influx of workers in the Gold Rush era and its ensuing wealth. The name "Los Banos" originated from a local Indian word meaning "water source". Today, most residents are white and Hispanic (mainly Latinos), with some Asian Americans also living in the town. The economy has since diversified with agricultural production now accounting for most jobs in Los Banos; however manufacturing remains a significant force with many local companies such as Apple Inc., Intel Xeon processors, and Toyota Motors Corporation having their headquarters hereabouts.

Los Banos is a small town located in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 5,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Bernardino–Riverside Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Los Banos were Spanish traders and missionaries in 1769. Los Banos was founded by José Joaquín Bautista de Anza on November 7, 1838 as an orange orchard and Rancho San Francisco de Borrego Mexican land grant. The name "Los Banos" may be derived from the Nahuatl word "bánxil", meaning "the place where oranges grow." In 1853, a post office was established at Los Banos; it closed in 1903. In 1907, the town became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and council members elected by residents only. In 1912, the community built its first school; it burned down in 1915 but was rebuilt and renamed after Mrs. Julia Goodyear Wilcox (1863-1937). Mrs. Goodyear had given $5,000 towards construction of a new school building which would also serve as her home until her death in 1937. The original school building still stands today and is used as a museum for local history buffs and local businesses who come to tour it during special events such as Heritage Days or Artisans' Open House dates each year throughout October/November when it is open to the public from 9am-4pm during regular business hours (closed December 16th & January 3rd). In 1922, Mayor Humberto Ramos organized what would become known as "El Parque" or Park District which included much of today's city limits including most of central Los Banos along with parts of Redondo Beach and Portola Hills; however all other portions except for easternmost portions of Riverside County are now within City Limits - again reflecting contemporaneous boundary changes caused by various realignments within Southern California following statehood on February 14th 36 years earlier! It should be noted that even though downtown Los Angeles proper delineates City Limits on one side while Riverside County stretches across both sides thereof - Professional Street running through Downtown LA continues eastward into City Limits while El Monte Boulevard – running concurrently through both counties continuing southward into Riverside Counties crosses over intoCity Limits just outside Downtown LA’s boundaries setting off yet another jurisdictional conflict! Consequently some Angelenos living northeast of DowntownLA continue to call themselves “inners” while others residing insideLA refer to themselves “outers”? A problem that has been exacerbated by recent population growth rates resulting in more people trying to move between two sets of county lines rather than Westerly flows associated with natural birth rates! Finally notwithstanding this complexity there does exist an unmistakable skyline view from almost any location within city limits regardlessof whether you reside insideLA or outside!!! Notwithstanding these complexities what can be observed from virtually any spot within city limits without feeling like you are being transported away from your own backyard - something not possible nor realistically achievable anywhere else in Southern California???
