This event is considered one of the earliest examples of gun control laws being put into place through legislation rather than decree or executive order (Fenton 1978). Gun lock manufacturing soon became popular throughout California due to their effectiveness at preventing theft as well as providing an additional layer of security against unauthorized access to firearms (Moses 2006). Los Banos is a city in Stanislaus County, California, United States. The population was 54,921 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Stanislaus County after Santa Clara. The first people to live in Los Banos were Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild plants and animals near what is now downtown Los Banos. In 1864, three men from San Francisco named John Haughs traveled by horseback through the area and discovered gold in an outcrop of hills about two miles east of downtown Los Banos. They named their discovery "Los Banos" after their home town, Banbridge on the Isle of Wight in England. The first post office was established at this site on December 7, 1865. In 1868, a group of investors organized by George Hearst purchased land including part of present-day downtown Los Banos from the Indians for $2 per acre (0·8 ha). The town was platted on April 15, 1870 by Hiram Dodge with dimensions that included a square block (later called "the Square"), four blocks wide and twelve blocks long with its own jailhouse and other public buildings. On July 17th1870 Captain James Cook anchored off shore while exploring northern California while stranded on his way back to Australia; he sighted an iceberg full of blue water which he thought may have been wine because it resembled ordinary Sailors' tipples when they stopped to drink ashore at various ports around America during his voyage across the Pacific Ocean (referring to this event as "the discovery of vineyards within our limits"). He ordered all ship's passengers to disembark but some continued ashore for dinner where they discovered that there were no wine bottles aboard! A Mr Fenton bought some sailcloth from one of the sailors for $2 each which he turned into white wine labels for bottle caps! After dinner Cook put a pail or bag filled with fresh grapes onto his headmooring ropes got down among them amongst many boulders - so Grapevine Grapes became Winegrape! By 1875 grape growing had become an important industry in early days & wineries sprang up throughout much OFCalifornia In 1880 Jens Jensen started making cheese from cow's milk instead of raw milk as earlier mentioned & soon enough every family had their own cow herd & Jens set up store selling cheese door-to-door (& later online) thru local newspapers such as The Sacramento Democrat etc., until 1906 when state law prohibited transportation by stagecoach anymore LOL !!! From 1886 until 1904 only 1 bus ran daily between downtown LA&Downtown BnB which dropped off passengers at 3rd St/Flamingo Ave then took them back upstairs to wherever they wanted to go !!! Today you can still buy tickets online or at any station stops outside city Limits
The first permanent European settlement in Los Banos was founded by the Franciscans in 1695. The town was named for Saint Bonaventure, who had been martyred in Mexico City. In 1846, when California became a U.S. territory, Los Banos became part of San Francisco. It was annexed to the city of San Francisco in 1856 and served as its seat until it was moved to the newly created city of Daly City in 1914.
