Scope mounts have been a part of the Los Angeles community for over thirty years. In that time, there have been many iterations and changes to how they work and what they can do. One of the earliest Scope Mounts in Los Angeles was installed on 5th avenue and Olive Street in 1983 by then-Mayor Tom Bradley. This mount allowed for viewers to see the Hollywood sign from any location in the city. It was also one of the first scopes to be used in LA’s large open space, Gilmore Park. In 1990, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa authorized the installation of a new scope mount at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. This mount allowed spectators to view Chateau Marmont, The Beverly Hills Hotel, and other iconic landmarks in downtown Los Angeles without having to walk or bike through residential areas. In 1992, Mayor Richard Riordan authorized the installation of a new scope mount at Staples Center which would allow fans access to all six lower bowl areas of the arena from any location within city limits. This was one of several scopesauthorized during his tenure that opened up more spectating opportunities for Angelenos throughout L A . This particular Scope Mount remains operational today and is still used by Lakers fans for viewing games at Staples Center. In 1994, Mayor Mickey Dolenz authorized the installation of a new scope mount at Dodger Stadium which would allow Spectators access to all 6 lower bowl areas from any location within city limits as well as views down both sides of Chavez Ravine from section 103A near Elysian Fields Cemetery . ThisScopeMOUNT remained operational until it was decommissioned in 2006 due to deterioration however is still extant today as an outdoor exhibit inside Dodger Stadium
