The first pistols using this design were created between 1868 and 1870 by William Godwin Smith and Daniel Freeman Smith. This model was called the .36 caliber Colt Model 1860A1 Revolver which became very popular among criminals and outlaws because it was easy to use and shoot without having to learn how to aim correctly. After Robert E Lee's death in 1865, several companies started creating new revolvers specifically for Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) officers who needed firepower while on duty outside of city limits. In the early 1900s, Los Angeles was a sleepy little town that wasn't too interested in gun ownership. However, over time, people in the city started to demand more and more guns. By 1920, there were over 100 handguns in Los Angeles. The1920s were a time when crime rates in Los Angeles were high. So much so that the city decided to enact strict gun control laws after a series of deadly shootings took place. These laws banned private citizens from owning firearms within city limits and required all handgun owners to have a license and keep their weapons locked up at all times. But despite these regulations, it still wasn't difficult for robbers and other criminals to get their hands on firearms. In fact, throughout most of the 1930s, pistols remained one of the top sources of firearm homicide in Los Angeles – even though handguns had been banned outright by then! However, things changed around 1940 when Mayor Tom Bradley made an important decision – he decided to allow residents back intogunownership within his city limits! LA's rapidly growing population soon caused problems with available space; within 10 years there were only about 20 blocks square (or about one-eighth mile) remaining free for development because of limitations on building height and width proposed by Governor Manuel Micheltorena. This led to a spate of early skyscraper construction along Fifth Avenue between Union Square and Flower Street –most notably David Hogg & Sons’ new Rialto Building which opened February 12th 1850.[6][7] In 1924–1925 architect Will Rogers designed what is considered to be Los Angeles' first skyscraper: The El Morocco Hotel (now called Trump Tower).[8][9] And although less well known today than some other famous First Amendment landmarks such as Fleetwood Mac's recording studio at 1650 Sunset Boulevard or Gershwin's Paramount Pictures studios at 711 East Jefferson Boulevard (now Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel), both buildings still stand today – preserved as examples of post-war modern architecture[10]. It wasn't until 1927 that LASD began purchasing surplus property eastward from downtown to form Forest Lawn Memorial Park District; this land would eventually become home to Staples Center (then just south thereof), Dodger Stadium (west thereof), Angelenos Stadium Coliseum/Lakeside Stadium (/ˈaɪlbænəs/ OC arena) and Olympic Village before being transferred back to City Hall control in 2002.[11][12]:1 After years spent apologizing for itssluggish beginnings,[13]:2 Los Angeles finally fulfilled its promise as an entertainment mecca with features like two movie theaters per block[14], multiplexes like Regal Cinemas [15], televised sports events like Dodgers games live on KTLA [16], open air concerts featuring world renowned jazz musicians such as Art Farmer or Cannonball Adderley at Chavez Ravine Park [17],and numerous nightlife destinations including Koreatown ([18]), Chinatown ([19],[20]), Little Tokyo ([21],[22]), Westwood Village ([23])and Echo Park ().
