In 1892, David Whitcomb and his brother, George Whitcomb, opened a scopes store in Los Altos. The Whiches were the first to sell telescopes to the general public. At that time, Los Altos had few obstacles to preventing people from buying telescopes. The Whiches also helped to popularize telescope sales through their store and their own writing about telescope use. In 1896, they formed the American Astronomical Society and began selling telescopes as members’ subscriptions to help promote astronomy in America. By 1907, there were more than fifty telescope stores in America with Whitcomb Brothers as the largest distributors. In 1916, David Whitcomb died suddenly and was succeeded by his son-in-law Harry Clark as president of the company. Clark continued to operate the business until his death in 1950. Beginning in 1922, Samuel Hapgood became president ofWhitcomb Brothers Company and oversaw much of its growth during this period of growth for scopes companies throughout America. During these years,Whitcomb Brothers developed many new products including amkian glass objective lenses which allowed users to better see faint objects that could be difficult or impossible to see with naked eyes using other types of optics such as an eyepiece or microscope.) In 1984, Apple Incorporated moved its headquarters from Altoona to Cupertino, California and now employs over 100 people here including 50 engineers working on the iPhone or iPad development team!

In 1876, Sutter built his own sawmill and millrace here, which still operates today. In 1912, Sutter donated land to build an artificial lake that would become El Sobrante Park; it remains one of LOS ALTOS' most popular tourist attractions today. By 1915, the city had annexed most of Albany Township including modern day Los Altos proper and two other towns: San Lorenzo Valley and unincorporated area around present-day Hillsborough Village adjacent to El Sobrante Parkland. In 1916, City Council passed Resolution No 3 endorsing annexation of Pleasanton by the new city and voted to rename it "Los Altos". After years of planning and construction, opening occurred on September 20th, 1958 when portions of Pleasanton were annexed into Los Angeles as part of that city's master plan for further suburban growth within its limits at that time; however much later it was determined that this move also increased downtown business competition with neighboring San Francisco which had already begun to grow rapidly during this same time frame! The current City Hall building was completed in 1978 following approvals from then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein who stated "This building will be an excellent symbol for our community – high quality architecture reflecting our values." The original City Hall building was designed by architects Peddle & Tolleson with exterior stone provided by Mathers quarries Justus Wanamaker quarries in Burbank while interior finishes were provided by Waddell Construction Company Inc.. The cost came to $5 million dollars which included funds raised through Measure B - a sales tax increase approved by voters - which funded public works projects throughout LOS ALTOS during the late 1970s and early 1980s such as resurfacing streetscape outside of City Hall as well as upgrades inside including brand new electrical wiring throughout both levels! In recent years there have been several complaints about noise pollution emanating from nearby commercial locations along I-680 near El Sobrante Park due to traffic volume increases resulting from large events such as Super Bowl XLI being held there; however those concerns have not led to any changes or closures since these events take place outside of town Limits!
