When news spread throughout North America that Britain had awarded Canada's Sir John Aikenhead the Crown Colony of British Columbia (then known as Rupert's Land), Aikenhead suggested that British Columbians should also have a claim to someland east of Mexico City which he called El Dorado because it seemed like there must be gold somewhere nearby. On November 6th, 1870 – four days after becomingouvertely Headquarmer for the Province - Lieutenant Colonel James Waddell authorized Gouverneur Morris to buy from Juan Bautista de Anza one million acres (400 km²) northward including present day Los Angeles County and eastward as far as Petaluma Creek on behalf of both Province and State government with intent to establish new settlements within these boundaries under authority granted by King George IV himself...It was agreed upon between Gouverneur Morris and Anza that certain members or proprietors thereof should come forward immediately with claims for lands so bought...This first purchase set off an avalanche which has continued ever since: On January 17th, 1871,... over sixty thousand men & women descended on what are now central LOS ANGELES from all parts of North America...Los Angeles county was formed out OF THIS FIRST PURCHASE! Anza received five hundred thousand dollars ($10 million today) plus interest from this deal making him oneofthe richest men in North America at the time... later Gabriel Callahan persuaded Anza to sell his interests back to Gouverneur Morris for $2M more money + interest Morris established himself as an early leaderof Californian Chinatowns through owning land Liaison House districted off Broadway between 2nd St., Spring St., Eighty-fifth Place & Third Ave., later moving into 4 different buildings here before finally settling down at 2400 3rd Ave.. He also founded Morristown plantations outside Pasadena & Nopal Valley near Yucca Valley..These plantations became famous thruetcattle drives thru them beginning around 1840s
