In 1951, Microsoft opened its new regional headquarters in Mountain View; that same year saw also the incorporation of El Cerrito into Los Altos but that entity disbanded within a few years due to various disagreements between residents and management. On July 1st 1969 - just days after Californias Proposition 68 election - LosAltos voters accepted incorporation as a town by an overwhelming margin (86% yes vote). At that time there were only 2 homes registered with county property assessors – both belonging to members of Congress from Menlo Park who decided not to seek re-election following public opposition against annexation proceedings (see map).
