In 1940, LAS merged with UC Riverside to form what is known today as UCLA; however, even though this merger happened immediately following the admission of women into universities across America (the process called “gender integration”), many faculty members still argued that LAS should have remained an all-male institution concurrent withUCRiverside due to its historical importance in agricultural research which helped contribute so much towards American success during World War II. This battle over semantics lasted well into the 1950s as evidenced by protests against gender integration at both institutions until finally being won by merging them into one entity under one Chancellor in 1959 which has continued uninterrupted ever since! Despite this long struggle between proponents and opponents of gender integration at UCLA/LAS,Gender Integration has become truly successful at UCLA/LAS with more than 50% woman professors teaching undergraduate courses while still providing excellent graduate level programs!
