Los Alamitos, California is home to the world's first optical laboratory and one of the most famous research institutions in the United States. The Laboratory was founded in 1885 by American scientist Edward C. Smith and his associate, Willis A. Liebknecht. It became a national center for optical research after it moved from New York City to Los Angeles in 1907.

Los Alamitos is a small town in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 1,621 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The name "Los Alamitos" comes from Spanish for "the place where the lightning flashes." The first person to live there was John Atanasoff and Clifford Berryman in 1922. Los Alamitos was established as a small town on July 6, 1926 when William Capps and his family bought 8 acres (3 ha) of land east of the present-day city limits of Los Angeles. The original citrus orchards were destroyed by fire in 1927 but new orchards were developed after that cottonwood tree line stretch became an important thoroughfare through the community during its early years. In 1951, Ernest Lawrence came to Los Alamitos as an advisor to Sandia National Laboratories and began working on developing nuclear weapons at Livermore National Laboratory across town; he would later become head of plutonium production at Los Alamitos and are considered co-inventors with Lawrence of the atomic bomb which was exploded over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. In 1957, Samuel Morse moved his uranium enrichment plant from Hanford to Los Alamitos after being convinced by Lawrence that it could help make nuclear weapons more reliable even though Hanford continued producing plutonium for nuclear energy until 1992. In 1963, officials from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory proposed building a space center near downtown LA because they saw no other option for growth withinLOS ANGELES COUNTY due to lack of development around Air Force One headquarters/ Kennedy Space Center south of Downtown/LAX Airport options; these plans never came true but have been alluded to again in recent years by various sources including potential site location for a new downtown LA hotel while still keeping access to JPL lands nearby should anything happen to those facilities or HQL ever close down again(note: this has not happened yet). According to the 2000 census, there were 1,621 people living in 283 households residing in 9 neighborhoods within 2 square miles (4 km²). These boundaries are included within ZIP code 90071 which has an estimated population density of 513 people per square mile (217/km²). The history of optical accessories begins with the discovery of light in the early 1800s. In 1819, a British scientist named James Clerk Maxwell discovered that when two waves of light crossed each other, they created an interference pattern. This led to the development of photography and eventually cinema. The first optical accessories were eyeglasses. In 1881, a patent for an " corrective lens" was filed by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. The patent provides for the use of lenses to correct vision deficiencies. The construction and design of these corrective lenses was based on the then-current invention of the keratectomy, a surgical procedure that involved cutting out one or more small portions of the human eye in order to improve sight. In 1906, American optometrist Charles Witten made improvements to corrective lenses and submitted his patents to the United States Patent Office. On March 8, 1912, Witten's patent #2,832 was issued for an improved type of corrective lens known as a " progressives." This new type featured two layers of material: one overlying the other so that they were wearable together like sunglasses. In 1916, American optometrist Lewis Hill commenced production of progressive types of corrective lenses under the name " Mylar." These new devices incorporated three layers: one overlying another so that they were wearable together like sunglasses; a metal frame with felt pads on each side covering your eyes; and a layer above this containing lead or other materials which would act as filters if you happened to be looking into bright light sources such as sunlight or lasers. In 1949, Japanese optometrist Minoru Nakamura begins producing what is now known as Gradiente glasses using plastic coating instead of Mylar because it provided better durability and did not fog up when you looked at images being projected onto screens in theatres.

Los Alamitos is a small city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Gabriel Valley and on the border of Pasadena and South Pasadena. The population was 77,651 at the 2010 census. The site for Los Alamitos was chosen in 1923 by General Leslie Groves as part of a competition to find a site for an American nuclear weapons testing ground. The first bomb test took place at Homestead-Miami Beach on July 16, 1945; it was also the first use of plutonium in an atomic weapon. In 1951, Los Alamitos became one of two sites used to develop America's first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The other location was Vandenberg AFB, California. On December 6, 1957, during Operation Plutonium –the world's first successful deployment of plutonium-239 Fat Man missiles–Los Alamitos became one of only two locations in the Western Hemisphere ever to have received live ammunition from Earth's nuclear arsenal. It continued to play a significant role within American nuclear deterrence until shut down by Congress in 1992 as part of efforts to reduce America's military spending. In 2002, it reopened as an international center for technology transfer and research associated with ASI (Advanced Scientific Instruments), now called CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).

Los Alamitos was founded in 1885 by J.D. Salinger, auf der Rancho Los Alamitos. The town gradually grew as a result of its proximity to the Kern River Valley and the production of oil and gas in nearby fields. In 1923, Los Alamitos became one of California's first cities when it was incorporated as a city under the state statute 14b15.
