That year, Mayor Harry Hughes proposed annexing neighboring cities such as Fullerton and Beaumont into Los Alamitos Township so that they too would have easier access to good schools and larger industrial areas outside their neighborhoods. A referendum yielded overwhelmingly in favor with just over 60% voting in favor; however incorporation did not take place until 1933 because full annexation followed only after state approval had been granted for a new county seat at San Fernando Valley site north of Pasadena along I-10.
