Los Alamitos is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of San Bernardino County and on the western edge of Riverside County. The population was 24,704 at the 2010 census. The name Los Alamitos comes from two places: one is a community in New Mexico, and the other is an old Spanish rancho (farmstead) in what is now southern Riverside County. The first people to live here were Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild game near present-day Lake Arrowhead and Lake Haverford. They built their homes using materials they found nearby such as obsidian points, bones, shells and charred bark from trees that had been burned for fuel. In 1868, George Washington Ellis founded Rancho Las Alamitos Mexican land grant east of Interstate 15 in what are now eastern Riverside County. He named it after his childhood home in Scotland – Alamo Hill – because he thought it would be easier to sell than his ancestral Rancho San Gabriel which he had bought some time before from Mission Santa Ana de la Laguna Indians. The first white person to arrive in los alamitos was Captains John Cranch (1811-1893), Charles Goodyear (1800-1889) and Augustus Woodward Porter (1821-1900). They started a tannery on Rancho las Alamitos Creek along with a couple of partners - John Sweeny (1783-1857), Captain Jonathan Churchman(1794-1860) - during the mid 1800s when tanning became an important industry in Southern California because of the lack of natural sunlight available anywhere else in the state. In 1892 Will Rogers filmed "A Star Is Born" at Hollywood Studios on Long Beach Boulevard just north of El Monte Ave., across from where we stand today off Fairfax Ave., opposite Staples Center across from UCLA's Pauly Pavilion

Los Alamitos, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 26,923 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Los Alamitos was Captain George Smeaton and his family who arrived on horseback in 1853. They built their first house on the corner of 2nd Street and Fulton Avenue. By 1860, they had acquired land north of 2nd Street and west of Alma Lane (nowmileage 705). In 1863, they organized as a town under the name "Albuquerque". They were one of two towns that formed what would become Riverside County; the other being Fullerton. Los Alamitos grew rapidly during the late 1850s due to its location near Joshua Tree National Park and mining operations at Grand Canyon National Park and White Sands Missile Range. In 1872-73,igate engineer John Cushing led an expedition to find new water sources for irrigation in central Southern California which found success at Rancho Mirage northwest of Villa Linda. This discovery led to construction of Simi Valley's first canal system - now called Kings Pass canals - and increased demand for water from farmers throughout southern San Diego County dockside areas like Carlsbad and La Jolla where Canoga Creek emptied into Santa Ana Bay near downtown Los Angeles
Los Alamitos was founded in 1847 as a small rancho on the east side of Los Angeles. The town gradually grew and reached its peak during the late 19th century, when it had a population of around 10,000 people. However, the town's fortunes began to decline after World War I, due to the decreased demand for agricultural goods and the growth of industry in nearby cities such as Los Angeles and Pasadena. By 1920, Los Alamitos had only 2,500 residents living within its walls. Its fall was marked by a series of natural disasters that struck the area: a fire in 1923 killed many of its citizens; an earthquake in 1933 destroyed much of the city; and a drought following World War II caused significant reductions in property values. In 1955, however, Los Alamitos became one of several towns along Interstate 5 between LAX and San Francisco (the others being Sherman Oaks and Redmond). It continued to grow rapidly until it reached its current size—estimated at over 85,000 residents—during the 1990s recession.
