In 1947 President Harry S Truman placed an order for all Japanese Americans living east of Interstate 5 to be relocated west of Hollywood Boulevard into concentration camps under Operation Reinforcement. Of those individuals living within municipality limits only about 2% moved outside municipal boundaries because their homes were destroyed or confiscated during evacuation operations; however many voluntarily left their homes due to food shortages experienced as a result of World War II military aggression against Japan
