In 1927, the Lompoc Pistol Club was founded in Lompoc, California. The club continued to meet until 1934 when it disbanded due to lack of members. In 1938, the Lompoc Rifle and Pistol range opened in town. The range quickly became popular with both local shooters and gun enthusiasts from nearby San Francisco. In 1945, the first rifle match was held at the range. The next year, the club hired its first assistant director (and future president) Al Sears who would help manage and run therange. Over time, other staff were hired including a gamekeeper and an usher. In 1949, a new clubhouse was built on site which still serves as the headquarters of today's Lompoc Rifle & Pistol Club. Throughout its history, theLompoc Rifle & Pistol Club has been committed to providing shooting opportunities for all ages and abilities alike. This includes sponsoring numerous tournaments that have attracted participants from around Northern California and beyond. In addition to hosting matches itself,the R&P Club also operates several shooting ranges across town including: Northridge Range(now closed), Southridge Range(closed), Eastridge Range(closed), Westridge Range(closed). Members can also participate in many other activities such as muzzleloading competitions or NRA member meetings at various venues throughout town each month!
