Lompoc is a small town in California's Central Valley, located about an hour and a half from Fresno. The population was 1,854 at the 2010 census. It is the most recent incorporated community to be established in the valley. Lompoc was platted by brothers Charles W. Alcott and John H. Alcott on October 25, 1887, as part of what would become the Kern County seat of Bakersfield. The first post office in Lompoc was opened in 1888, and it remained open until 1907. From its inception until 1959, Lompoc was also the county seat of Kern County. In 1959, Bakersfield became the new county seat after being chosen over Lompoc by a vote of both the governing Board of Supervisors and residents who had registered to vote there before that date. Lompoc has experienced numerous significant changes throughout its history; some are more famous than others: In 1951, when Interstate 5 was built through central California, extensive development took place around Lompoc with schools, churches and other businesses opening up along I-5. Today much of this remains extant including much of town center which is now home to Pinnacle Bank & Trust Company (one of downtown's earliest tenants), multiple Target stores as well as several bars/restaurants including Bob Evans BBQ fame and two Pizza Hut locations - one inside and one outside The Veterans Memorial Building on State Street near Interstate 5E (the current site for Chipotle Mexican Grill). A major fire destroyed much of downtown in 1965 which left much unused landfilled with buildings from then on until ensuing redevelopment created today’s larger core area around Pinnacle Bank & Trust Company., numerous Target stores down State Street between I-5W & I-5E as well as several restaurants all within walking distance from each other making Downtown Lompoc easily accessible for residents regardless their busy schedules or lack thereof! Lompoc, California is a small town located in San Luis Obispo County on the Central Coast of California. The population was 2,564 at the 2010 census. Lompoc is named after Captain John Lompoc, who explored this area in 1824. The Mission Santa Cruz de la Laguna served as the first mission in what is now San Luis Obispo County. The name "Lompoc" comes from two Spanish words: lombo (a type of clams) and point (a bluff). In 1872, an American military post was established at Point Conception and the name changed to Fort Lompoc because of its location on a promontory overlooking the ocean. In 1915, Victoriano Huerta became president of Mexico and began organizing efforts to create Mexican statehood for Southern California. On November 15, 1915 he signalled his intention to establish a new state called Baja California with Los Angeles as its capital. He sent a telegram requesting that the U.S., through Governor Arthur Caproni, recognize this proposal so that it could be given formal consideration by Congress. On January 3, 1916 President Wilson issued Executive Order 9265 which granted Mexican statehood to Baja California; however no action followed because Huerta's attempt failed to receive congressional approval. In 1922 Huerta succeeded in getting congressional approval for another proposed Mexican state called Sonora but that too failed when Governor Elmer Benson opposed it because he feared it would give ammunition to United States opponents of war with Mexico over control of Baja California Alta!. On February 5th 1908 Wilfred Fenton bought land southeast of Loomuc from José Moreno for $1,000 cash only; this act set off one of history's largest land transactions in American history and closed up about 283 acres (130 hectares) of virgin forested land located east-southeast of downtown Loomuc which had been part Of Francisco Jaroacá's Rancho Aguaje de las Animas de los Padres Misioneros . This acquisition made Fenton one of America’s most powerful landowners and gave him exclusive access to alluvial gold deposits discovered along Mountain Pass Road between Carpinteria Creek and Diridon Creek south-southwestof present day Loomuc . In 1912 Fenton organized what became known as The Gilded Age Landowners Association which lobbied tirelessly for government recognition providing financial support to landowners during the First World War while also pressuring congressmen not to enter into any conflict with Mexico over lands northward extending into Oregon ;[2] although they ultimately lost their case Congressman James Buchanan vetoed three resolutions submitted by Attorney General William Jennings Bryan seeking congressional sanction for annexation while House Speaker Robert Byrd supported resolution introduced by Reporters Hermann Oglebeck et al.[3] Although planted evidence has implicated some members within both Republican and Democratic administrations throughout much later years there has never been any definitive proof linking these men directly or indirectly with connections within organized crime groups .....The lackadaisical attitude towards law enforcement during this time period means that many crimes were committed without consequence ....... although several investigations have since been conducted into more recent events surrounding FBI agent Joseph DeAngelo .........the following article provides an overview outlining some key aspects associated with historical events relatedto organized crime in Los Angeles County during Hearst's reign ..............
