Gun targets have been a popular pastime in Lomita since the 1800s. The old guns and powder magazines that once graced these streets are now relics of history, but the target shooters who love to shoot at them still engage in this hobby today. In 1853, gun captain John Fenton erected a large target on Point Reyes Road for use by the residents of Lomita and nearby towns. Unfortunately, due to its location near an active Coast Range Fault, the target often caught on fire. In 1875, Captain Fenton’s son erected another large target on his father’s land just south of Point Reyes Road. This second target was much more durable and continued to be used until it was destroyed by a lightning strike in 1912. The first recorded shooting at a gun range took place on May 12th of 1908 when Cora Baughman and her friends gathered around Captains Thomas Sweeny and J.F.Monson’s rifle range located off Highway 1 in North Beach for some fun. At that time there were only five people living in Lomita; today there are over 100 residents who use this facility every year! One of the most famous targets from these days is Captain Fenton’s “Titanic” which stands tall today at 213 feet tall with its awe-inspiring 20 barrel barrel! Today, anyone can enjoy shooting at this unique attraction - even small children! Although many civilians take part ingunTarget Shooting events each year throughout California, there is no doubt that it is one of our state’s favorite pastimes!

Lomita (formerly known as "Mission Beach") is a census-designated place in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 27,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego metropolitan area. The name "Lomita" comes from the Visayan word "lomi," meaning to wash or dry things. The first settler in Lomita was one Mr. Higginbotham who arrived on July 4, 1887. He named his ranch Rancho Cucamonga after his father's home town of Cucamonga, California. The post office at Lomita was established on February 14, 1888 and served until it merged into San Diego on January 15, 1902. At that time there were only 7 residents living at Lomita when it became a incorporated town under the name of Mission Beach with a population of 100 citizens; today there are over 30 residents and 5 businesses located within the boundaries of Lomita proper and its satellite towns: North Park (to the north), La Jolla Village (to the northeast), Encinitas (to the southeast), Pescadero (southwest), and Solana Beach (northwest). In 1911 an act approved by Congress provided for annexation by Los Angeles County which took effect on November 1st that year; thus Mission Beach became an unincorporated community within Los Angeles County rather than being annexed into San Diego County as had been proposed by Congress – this event also helped to improve relations between these two counties as well as promote growth in both areas through tourism opportunities. The first post office closed in 1951 when Southern Pacific Railroad abandoned its line through Lomita Junction due to high maintenance costs associated with maintaining trackage along old roadbeds now used for agricultural purposes including access roads leading to new homesites developed near present day Naval Air Station Miramar; Amtrak services using tracks running parallel to Santa Monica Blvd continue passenger service past Miramar today despite efforts by local developers to reroute railroad traffic away from residential communities adjacent NM State College . In 1975 Western Electric Corporation discontinued all electric service throughout operation in southern California effective November 3rd following a dispute with Southern Pacific about rates for power usage resulting from increased electrification projects across their lines east of Pasadena; this event led to what has been called “the last major strike” against industrial workers in southern California...Today many people still refer to themselves as “Los Angeles/SanDiego” even though they live outside of either city limits

During the 18th century there was a rise in popularity for targeting rifles, which led to the development of modern muzzleloading guns which fired projectiles by means other than percussion caps (such as powder cartridges). As muzzle loadingguns became more common, it also became necessary for shooters to create realistic targets which would allow them To accurately aim their weapons at distances beyond 100 yards (91 meters).
